i'm trying to put a jdm b16a motor into me obd2 civic, the question is will i get a cel (which will cause me to fail inspections) beause of no crank angle sensor.

when i searched, i came up with the information that if i use a obd 1 distributor, with a obd1 ecu, such as the jdm p30 that came with the motor for a little extra, will i get no check engine light, because obd1 ecu's don't look for crank positions sensors?

In the name of keeping this as simple as possible do the following:

-Use an OBD2 Distributor, alternator and fuel injectors.
-Perform the CKF fix you linked to.
-Use a USDM P30/P2T ECU

This should keep you legal, unless your state requires that the engine be the same year or newer than the car.

so are you using your stock engine harness or the obd1 engine harness to make this work?

As far as OBD2 civics go you have no choice but to use the OBD2 civic harness. OBD1 civic and all OBD1 and OBD2 integras use a 2 piece harness. OBD2 civics use a completely different 1 piece harness. The easiest way to do the swap is to use all OBD2 components on the engine so you don't have to cut and splice any connectors.

Edit, I completely forgot when I originally posted this the idea was to pass emissions. So on that note forget the OBD1 ECU bit, as it will not pass. Instead use an USDM OBD2 ECU and trick it into believe you have a CKF sensor.

so. +1 on converting to obd2 engine components with a obd1 ecu.

the reason i ask is because i paid extra for the jdm p30 ecu...so i was wondering if i should use it, or get a obd2 ecu...thanks.

If you use the obd1 ecu the thing they plug into your computer wont work. I have an obd1 ecu in my 98 civic which was obd2 and I just found a way around emissions.

Correct OBD2 JDM ECUs work the same way as well, they will not communicate with the diagnostic port.

if you use an obd1 it will not pass. I registered my car in a relatives county where emissions is not required just safety inspection.

what country is that. so how do you get the plates and inspection

gsrauto98 said County, not Country. But there isn't a county in NY state that I know of, that doesn't at least do OBD2 checking (needing an OBD2 ecu and having no check engine light codes).

Ya, here in Florida things are still good...... I run all of my crap on obd1 ecus and with no cat or sometimes any exhaust at all besides open header, slammed with no carb stickers on anything, non dot lights etc..........sucks for you guys with inspections ha ha ha........only thing I hate is the mother****ing cops!!!!!

your crank angle sensor runs off the same pulse as another sensor so do that hard wire link you put up and it takes care of that. Also use your obd1 dizzy and get a adaptor harness from rywire.com which makes your obd1 dizzy plug into an obd2 harness w/e having to screw around with dizzy housings. i did this putting an obd1 motor in an obd2 civic no CEL and it passes inspection no one even knew.
