well. whats up for one, im new, been a follower for a while, i have a 2000 civic ex as my dd. long story short i got into a minor fender bender. had to replace rad. i got a rad,tstat from carquest. installed rad no probs. did the tstat as well. bleed system( front jacked up,heat on max) prob a good 15-20 min i realized fan isnt kicking on, i was like wtf.,temp was normal. let it cool down, bled system again later in day. same way. no fan, so i jumped fan directly to battery, fan works, ok, swapped condenser relay with rad fan one nothing, condenser fan works. jumped the 2p connector for fan switch and turned key to on. fan runs! ok bad fan switch,went to car quest bought a new relay and a fan switch. installed today. bled system again, no fan. wtf. jumped fan switch connector turned key on.fan works, ok maybe i got a bad sensor. lesson learned no carquest parts, when to honda bought a oem tstat and fan switch, by the way i get heat in side the car so tstat must be opening. installed honda parts this afternoon. figured this is finally it. installed parts, refilled rad,bled system, still no fan. gotta be kidding me, jumped fan switch again,fan works! is it possible i got 2 dead fan switches!? i then bled it again just a bit ago, then topped it off capped it and took it on a 5 miles test drive, temp gauge never moves off normal. no leaks, idles fine, oil is clean,smells like oil, looks like oil, exhaust is clean. got back still no fan kick on, its about 55-60 here today and cloudy. i let it idle in driveway for 5-8 min no fan, top of rad is hot, top rad hose is hot, and the lower hose is getting pretty warm to hot now to. so i shut is off, i dk what to do here, my next step is dropping it off at honda but i really cant afford to. seems like it drinks a little coolant out of the res. idk if that has anything to do with it. no weird engine noises, car has 110k on it, timing belt and water pump were done at 50k by prev owner, ive had this car 3 years without a single problem, ever since the fender bender i cant get the cooling system straight. please help me ive seen alot of post and you guys are very helpful here is a pic of temp gauge

no i said the temp was fine. it stays there,but fan never comes on and both upper and lower rad hoses get hot, top hotter.

are you waiting for the fan to turn on while its just idlleing?
take that bitch for a short drive around the block see what it does.
if it starts to overheat then you know it really isnt working.
idk what to to tell you. your temp looks good

Is the fan functional? Trying to understand what all this "ASAP" business is all about.

it says in the first post that i took it for a 5 mile drive,and also that i tested the fan directly to the battery and it works and also works if i jump the connector for the fan switch......

the lower rad hose getting hot isnt normal though is it

i think your car is fine. its running well like honda had designed and the ambient air temp. is probably helping the system and hurting you paranoia.

Start the car and hold the RPM at 3000 for 5 min, if the lower hose is not hot, just warm, there is still air in the system.

Once the lower hose gets as hot as the upper hose, again hold the RPM at 3000 for 5 minutes and then let it idle and listen for the fan to kick on.

and remember you got a NEW radiator its flowing a whole lot better now. ill probably put up pics of my new radiator today, temps are MUCH!!!!! COOLER and fans don't turn on unless im in a freeway run i can let it idle for 30 minutes no fans. i can go to the store no fans. i get on freeway get out fans are on never overheating. these are little engines not big v8's they are efficient engines

yea i guess that makes sense. im just paranoid im gonna break something. so should both the upper adn lower rad hose be pressurized hard and hot?

then i guess shes running ok, i was like wtf no way that this fan doesnt need to kick on it been running 30min and hoses are hot and very hard, like cant squeeze them i didnt want them to burst

This would be my suggestion as well. 2500-3000rpm for a couple minutes, if its cooler outside close the hood while you keep it revved up.

start it and rev it with rad cap on or off?

Cap on, don't rev it up with the cap off, it will spew coolant everywhere if the cap is off
