Default My timing belt broke after only 5,000 miles?

Had a new belt installed by mechanic. Was going 60 then, snap.
What might be the cause the failure of a new belt. I also changed the water pump when I had the new belt installed. Also, how likely is valve damage when a D16 snaps its belt?

Was the belt exposed? Maybe a rock jumped up and got in there.

Or maybe it was just a cheap belt, i would go back to that mechanic and bitch to him to fix it.

If it was installed properly then its not his fault. To make sure its done right this time though I have my car in the good hands at Intercrew. They are going to test the head to see if I bent any valves.
Anyone have experience with a timing belt breaking on a D16.

I don't think it would **** anything up, just go to the mechanic and get your money back, and do it yourself or pay some one to do it that know what they are doing. BTW new timing belt is like $30 I think.

I don't know, but one of my dumb *** friends was cleaning off the valve cover with a rag while the belt was exposed and the car was running. You could imagine what happened next. Rag cought caught timing jumped and his fingers almost got grinded to the bone.

Just put it on incase something spill on it or something hits it.

(heavy sarcasm)yeah, those crazy bastards at honda always putting extra covers on things. Seen someone lose a screw into there, result was a timing belt hanging on by a thread.

if you still have the belt, tell us what it looked like..... straight snap? worn on the edges? etc.....

Funny the warnings they put on things... "Do not install fan belt with engine running."

Good luck, I hope nothing was damaged!

was the belt oem???

im gonna bet 100 dollars it wasnt installed right , or oem . a belt is supposed to last 100k , but be changed what , every 60k?

there is no way a properly installed belt would break after 5k.

did it actually break or slip off?

Another possibility could be it rubbed the teeth on the cam gear and just got a few cracks in it and eventually just broke.

Also debris i'm sure could **** your timing belt up and yet again thats another reason why i leave my timing belt covers on.

My cover was on. Any other reasons why the belt broke? What could be damaged?

I have a feeling it wasn't a OEM honda Belt.

Bent valve, damaged pistons. Either you had bad luck and the belt just snapped, maybe it was a defective belt, or the mechanic did not install it properly. I would put my money on the mechanic not installing it correctly.

did he replace the timing belt tensioner? did he adjust it properly? take your car to honda, give him the estimate to fix the motor/valvetrain.

if people can sue (innocent at that) doctors for people dying then you can sure as **** have him pay for your dead motor
