I'm curently installing a turbo on my d16z6 and i need to change my oil filter and its stuck! I went to the auto-part store and they had only one oil filter grabber... and there is not enough space to use it in the engine bay.

Do you have any trick to help me?

Gloves, wear some gloves. If you have mechanic gloves great, but leather gardening/landscape gloves will help out a great deal. Mostly its grip when those bastards get stuck on there.

Dont try the screw driver thru the filter trick, you may end up in a worse situation.

yeah man, get your arm down in there and give it some serious elbow grease. Make sure you lube the gasket of your next one so you don't have this problem again....GL on the turbo install!

How did you tighten it on your last oil change?

Have you tried a strap wrench?

Here's an old trick:

Get your belt (make sure it's a decent leather one, not a Wal-Mart special for $2.99).

Loop it through the buckle and tighten it around the filter.

Try to get the buckle on the left side of the filter, so when you pull down, it's pulling toward the left so it'll break it loose.

Pull down and watch it turn slowly.

Put a piece of sandpaper in the palm of your hand and try to remove it.

If you're careful not to hit the threaded portion of the oiling system, the screwdriver trick is fine. I do it all the time.

Agree ive used this a bunch of times also. Just gotta becareful. It makes a huge mess so make sure you arnt under the filter when ya do it.

just use a piece of sand paper grips like a mother if you get a medium to fine grit.

I use this universal oil filter wrench thing. you attach directly to a wrench and when you turn it, it closes it on the filter. so the harder you turn it, the harder it grabs the filter.

no problems with it so far.

by 'screwdriver trick', i assume you guys mean sticking a screwdriver through the filter while it is stil attached and then turning and removing it?

Nah, I'm talking about chopping a screwdriver into about eight hefty chunks and tossing the whole mess into the crankcase while the engine's running .

Or you could just heat up the filter, usually by running the car before the oil change but I suppose you could use a hair dryer to heat it up.

I use a big *** set of channel locks, works like ******* magic and fits up in there easily. They also work great for pushing the piston back into the caliper on the front brakes when changing the pads. The rear pistons have to be screwed in though.

get a 8 inch flat tip screw driver and stab it through that SOB! then you should have plenty of leverage and a no slip handle...

use the BFchannel locks it ***** up ur oil filter but ur changing it neways

Only ever HAND Tighten the filter. Don't ever use a wrench or another tool to tighten it.

LOL i'm amaze right now i came back from work and now the thread is 23 post long!
I'm going to try tomorrow with all the trick you gave me but if it dont work i'll do the screwdriver trick!

Its just hard to find some time cause i work 3 days at the nightclub and the other 4 as a barman in a restaurant... i wish a week could be 8~9 days!
