My car reeks of BO. How do I make it smell fresh?
My car smells like dirty gym socks.
I've tried tons of air freshners.
The little trees work temporarily, the sprays as well.
Nothing seems to permanently get rid of the stinch.
Any ideas?

Throw in a pile of mint leaves in the back seat , roll down your windows and let it air out over night.

Agreed, will make a big difference!!!
The other place smells can come from people forget about is in the ventilation system!! It would be a great idea to p/u one of those air bombs......where you turn your fan on full and recirculate.....open the air bomb and let it do it's thing with windows shut!

I bought a set of JDM ITR Recaros that smelled like an ashtray. I had them steam cleaned by a pro and they came out smelling fresh as a morning breeze.

definitely clean the car. Also, febreeze or other odor neutralizers work nice. Not totally effective, but they help more than an air freshener.

Try this along with your carpet/seat shampooing. My car used to stink because the trunk leaked and there was standing water under my backseat.

This guy doesn't know what to say about how your car smells like him...
Solution: Steam clean everything to remove all dirt and bacteria that will cause the odor. Then properly dry with windows down. Nice hot day will work.

Figure out what the smell is coming from first. You're going to want to focus your attention to that part of the vehicle.
Trunk, floormats (I've had one floormat that had spilt milk on it, which killed the smell of the whole interior). ventilation, seats, etc.
I've seen water leaks, one single spill of food or drink or bodily fluids and vents all stink up a car.
First step is a good cleaning. Vacuum, steam clean.
If that doesn't bring it out, try to figure out what the cause of the smell is. There's a fair chance you can use an enzyme odor neutralizer on it. That stuff eats up your spill, taking the stink with it. I've seen it mow through that previoulsy mentioned spilt-coffee-with-milk-sitting-for-a-month-before-smell-could-be-removed issue...
That *should* be able to remove even the worst stuff. You might need to go online to find a good product though. I used Petzyme from Petco or Petsmart (I forget), but they no longer sell it as they've replaced it with some other product.
A professional detailer could also use similar products or ozone the car. I don't know how much I like ozone though, since we used to have to ozone the car or bomb it several times before the smell would go away. Plus we only had the cars for short periods of time. The smell might have come back.

Milk is no joke, I spilled milk in my car one time and it soured on the floormat, that smell would almost make a damn buzzard puke. A good cleaning got rid of it.
Great advice in this thread for getting rid of car smells. My Cousin's Del-Sol got to smelling really bad one day a good while back. Her and her husband eat McDonalds all the time and somehow 1/2 a cheeseburger made its way under the passenger seat and spoiled. Nasty.
