Icon2 Motor sound/problem

I really do not know how to describe this problem other than by the sound.

When I accelerate my car makes a slightly "gutty" or "chunky" sound; perhaps 'fluttering" would be more correct. Something along those lines.

But I have NOT noticed a loss of power. The sound is more distinct when my car is cold.

The sound is definitely coming from the engine bay, it is not an exhaust problem. However the sound was less noticeable while I had a free flowing muffler, but I am sure it is just because it was louder and drowned the engine noise out. My muffler is now stock.

The sound is very similar to driving in a unnecessarily high gear and "flooring" it, but quieter.

One more thing, I also hear a sucking/blowing sound right behind my dash on occasion, about 50%. These two sounds may or may not have started happening at the same time.

My motor is stock D16Y8 with 140,000 miles. I need to change the oil soon and my spark plugs and wires.

Sorry all I can is describe a very questionable sound. Thank you so much for any help.

could be couple things...

could be your alternator or your heat shields. honda civic's are known to have that heat shield problem which is part of your exhaust. have your car lifted and have a good look underneath it.

So I changed my oil... and the sound went away.

What does that tell you about my oil :0

Yes! Well, not usually. But I moved recently and have a further commute than usual and started racking up twice the mileage without really thinking about it.

But I do need to keep a better mind set on changing the oil more regularly.

Thanks everyone for the help/ideas.
