Default material suggestion for making tire cover

The del sol has a bit of damage to the hardboard that covers the spare tire in the trunk. All the little pads on the bottom and the carpet are still good.

has anyone found something similar to make one from or maybe even a better material?

I've thought about going to the junk yard and maybe getting a good pice from a mini van or SUV size vehicle and cutting it down

The parts sites show it as discontinued

I went to lowe's today and found some hardboard that worked out great. You can get a sheet big enough to make two for under $7.

I took notes on all the measurements as well as a tracing of the rear edge.

If anyone needs the drawings I should have them in PDF soon.

PS grumblemarc no use replying, I put you on the ignore list

I used MDF for mine. tossed a piano hinge on it for easy access to the spare.

I considered wood, but this is the same material and thickness, thus it lays in there the same and can even reuse the carpet clips to attach the carpet.

I used the material they make for bathrooms, behind the tile. It's made to be water, mold, and mildew resistant, so even if you have a leak (or it's just stupidly humid) you don't have to worry about it.

The original is made out of masonite, just buy another sheet at your local hardware/building supply store, trace the outline of the original on top of it and cut it out with a jigsaw.

The VXs used coraplast, but it's not particularly sturdy.
