Manual Transmission Noise 96 ex
Need some help diagnosing the cause of my transmission noise.
At first I noticed there was a occasional whirring type while in 1st gear and a slight chatter noise when in neutral with the clutch engaged.
Now the noise has became worse (I've neglected fixing the problem due to being broke, but now I'm ready to fix it). Along with the chattering there is now slight knocking coming from the transmission with the engaged in neutral which can be felt in gearshift. The whirring has become consistent and happens in 2nd gear as well.
Also sometimes when switching gears I will hear a soft scraping sound coming from under the gearshift.
It seems like I need a new input shaft bearing, but I'm not sure if that's all that is ****ed.
Any input appreciated.

If in 1 or 2 gears it could be a syncro on that gear. It could also be a bad throwout bearing in neutral what you are hearing. For the syncro you can try 2 things buy redline oil or try some lucas in it. I myself had a problem with a syncro in a mk3 supra and the redline oil is one of the things the supra forum swears by, so I tried it and it was like a miracle cure. The Lucas is something a friend of mine uses and it seams to help his Honda. You can give one a try.

bump
Finally went to harbor freight and got some tools that I'd need. I ended up getting the standard rapid pump 3 ton floor jack, although now I'm starting to question if I should have gotten one of the low profile racing ones instead. The racing one is about 5" shorter when down. Will the the 16-3/4" jack stands provide enough clearance for the tranny to slide out? I suppose I can always get the tape measure out tomorrow. I have to do 45 minutes of driving out there anyway to return one of the jack stands anyway as it is kinda warped and has a chip in it.
Also at this point I think I'm just going to throw a used tranny in there instead of replacing bearings. I can't afford to have my car off the road for more than a couple days ago and I've never attempted anything of this magnitude. Anyone know of any good vendors other than ebay?
Thanks
