Default Main Relay dead symptoms?

UPDATE:
Checked main relay with DMM for these tests and none worked:
http://techauto.tripod.com/mainrelay.htm

Just got my car back together from a 3 year sit.
Go to start it up and key on, clutch in, key turn and click. normal main relay symptom I think.

Fuel pump doesnt turn on either.

I let the clutch pedal in and out a few times with the key turned all the way and it clicks every time the pedal is pushed in.

ALSO: the CEL blinks a few times before turning itself off. It is not turned off by an attempt to start. I also tried 2 different ECU's so hopefully thats not it.
The radiator fan also turns on when I try to start.

Main relay dead right?

thanks

When my main relay was going, the car would crank (not just click like a dead battery), but would not start. The fuel pump did not prime.

It doesn't crank though right? Main relay doesn't even enter into the starting circuit at all. Basically is it turning over or not?

Hmm. you might have 2 problems, whether the main relay is good or bad shouldn't affect it turning over, I have the wiring diagram for the starting circuit, its pretty basic and the main relay doesn't enter into it all. Give the starter a couple of taps with a hammer (don't beat the **** out of it, just tap it) and see if it cranks over.

so somehow it turned over this time after fiddling with it for a bit.

main relay is out because im sure thats one problem since it didnt pass any of those tests on that link. fuel pump doesnt turn on which is due to main relay removed?

no spark either at the plugs. any ideas?
radiator fan keeps coming on though which i find weird.

Hmm, you checked all fuses? Including the underhood fuse box? thermostat ground? Coil?

yeah been checking all fuses I come across.
I have the FSM and electrical manual as well and Im following all the things that I think could be wrong.

Ill check thermostat ground tho, didnt think of that.

Checked the distributor plugs, black/yel has 12v when key is in run mode, as does yel/grn for the ignitor.

still no spark though which is odd. makes me think something in the dist. is bad.

Yeah, thats a strong possibility. See if you can borrow a known good one and try it.
