Default Limp Mode, Can't retrieve CEL Codes. Searched.

My 94 del Sol VTEC Engaged in Limp mode today. I was driving normally in traffic, nothing special, not even hitting vtec at all in the entire day. My car has a chipped P28 tuned with Chrome. It has been like this for a few months now. I tried the clip in the jumper harness procedure to get CEL Codes, and the CEL never flashed, just stayed solid on. It rev limits @ 3,200 rpm which I understand is normal for limp mode. Anyways, I had a few questions since I searched and didn't know what they meant. What is MAP? and what is IAT? Someone also mentioned the TPS, which I do know what it is. I believe mine is faulty because at very low gas situations, for example 1st gear creeping thru a parking lot, my car rocks back n forth when I release the gas. My engine internals are stock, only have I/H/E. Hope you guys can help!

Did you push the paperclip far enough down in the connector? I had to really press mine down in the holes to get the CEL to flash on my car. Was your CEL even on? You can't pull any codes unless it is on.

Oh yea, so sorry I forgot to mention. The CEL turned on inmediatly as it went into limp mode. I'm gonna try and push it all the way in now, I'll get back at you in a few min's, see what happens.

Good luck. I was having the same trouble retrieving my CEL codes also and after I really pushed the paperclip down in there, it started spitting out the codes.

Tried everything. Even slightly stripped a part of the 2 wired to short them out with another piece of wire, and no go. All i get is a solid CEL as soon as I put the key in ON position. I feel lost!

Hmm, well I don't know why it's not working. You could try taking your car down to Advance or some other auto parts store and seeing if they will hook up a handheld to the port and try to pull the codes that way.

Anyone else has any suggestions? One that doesn't involve a shop or Advanced Auto Jack or Western Stick Up? If my TPS goes bad, would my car go into limp mode? Since I was pretty sure my TPS was going bad.

Ok guys. You're not gonna believe this. I started unplugging and replugging plugs around the engine bay. Starting with the TPS plug, then the plug that goes to the distributor I believe? Its the thing where the 4 spark plug cables goes from. ( Sorry english isn't my main language), I also tapped the TPS with a wrench, lightly. Thing is, when I unplugged the one that goes to the spark plug cable deal thinger, obviously the engine shuts off. I turn it back on. . . . and limp mode is gone!!! Also, my engine idles better. Its unbelievable. I took it out for some inspirational, recreational, spirited, humiliating-to-the-guy-trying-to-race-you driving, lol and it ran beautifuly. Thanks guys for your help!
