Default KYB AGX top nut: I hate you!

F_ck you KYB AGX! The design of these things is horrible, i managed to get the top nuts off 2 of the struts but i cant get the nuts off the other 2. the top 2-3 threads on the other 2 are damaged cause of how your supposed to grip the strut right where the threads are and the nut just locks up on them.

Any ideas on how to get the nut off without cutting it or breaking the strut? Im thinkin i might get a big vice grip and grab the pistons rod or whatever and see if i can do it that way.

The issue is there is so little thread left that there is nowhere to grip AND the nut is all binded up on the last 2 threads

i may just use a dremel and create a flay spot in the very top of the shaft then grip it with the vice grips.

expletive KYB what were they thinkking when they put the shaft grip right next to the ******* threads

i use KYB and never had a problem, see if you can take the nut back off. if so go to the store and buy some regular nuts, the ones that come with have teflon inserts to keep them from backing off. use regular nuts then a locknut on top if you want. i dont have the problem you got though because i use air tools. and dont worry kyb has lifetime warrant if you expletive it up.

duhr great idea never even thought of that. You mean like use a strp-wrench type thing? Thats exactly the problem the shaft is spinning and there is no room left on top to grip it...

if you grab it with anything do it as high as possible, cuz you will most likely put some kind of knurl on the shaft and if its low enough for that part to pass the seal it will tear it and you will be leaking in no time
