Default just pulled off the head

i just pulled the head off my 15b7 its got 140000 miles on the engine, i was wondering 2 things, first i want to make sure that this is TDC and second i want your opinions on the condition of my pistons. do they just look like pistons that have seen 140000 miles, or do they look scorched?

nah they dont look too bad. The pistons i pulled out of the Y8 that i bought and built looked somewhat like that. You can clean them up and they are fine. And what is TDC may I ask?

Yes that is top dead center. There should be a dot on the crank pulley and oil pump, these should aligned. You going to pull those pistons and put some new rings, bearings, and a fresh hone in there, right?

if you dont do this your gonna get like 10,000 miles...maybe an exaggeration...and then your gonna burn oil like crazy. then you will have to pull the whole motor again. PIA

but you can go ACL bearings and HASTINGS rings for cheap. then just go to your local parts store and see if you can get a FEL-PRO gasket set. much cheaper than OEM and just as good...i think.

the hard part is gonna be paying a ship to hone your block if you dont know how. but if your a v8 guy you should know. same thing as a v8 just half the work.

and since im guessing its your dd you dont need to do anything with your crank.

Pistons look fine. I wouldnt bother spending money on rings or anything for that motor, just save up and swap in a Z6 or D15B. D15B7 motors are like $50 in a junk yard.

lol u should have gotten a z6 head. But that motor is so cheap idk if its worth doing anything to. I mean if you have it open and you ordered a NEW head then you should pull it out, put in some ACL Duraglide bearings or Clevite bearings (Clevite is cheaper) and put some new hastings on it and clean up the pistons and put it back together. And hone the block too. Then it will all be like new and good for another 140k :X

The pistons and the cylinder walls look great for having as many miles as they do. I dont know about your head choice since i'm not exactly a D series guru, but it looks as though you're on the right track so far. As for the bearings, oil pump and other garbage on your engine, that stuff is really secondary. Replacing it would be ideal, but then again, so would winning the lottery. If you have the time, money and knowledge, it may not be a bad idea...if not, no big loss.

my head choice came from needing a running car because my real DD is down thanks to no compression in cyl 1. this is cheaper to fix, i ordered a replacment head and the 16a6 head came, its the old si head. it flows better than the 1.5's head, and has a more agressive cam. i do not plan to build this engine, i am simply trying to get a car on the road.

well if you dont care then just clean the top of the pistons and put the new head on. But it wouldnt cost much to make the engine like new. Since you have it apart anyway.

Cleaning the tops of the pistons is a waste unless there's excess carbon buildup. Once the engine starts again, all your work will be instantly gone. Its like wiping before you poop...it seems like a good idea, but really doesn't do ****

The D16A6 head is supposed to be good. I know that it had a good bottom end. I've seen plenty of Civics with over 200K, so you should be fine with just slapping that head on and running it until you get your DD going.

once my real DD is back up, i may think about paying bisimoto's website a visit, if someone can make an NA d15 run 10s NA in the 1/4, theyre ok by me.

Im not sure if Bisi went 10's on a NA d series. I know he did that with the older accord F series.

Honestly I wouldnt touch the rings nor the bearings. place it on TDC slap the head on and go. If you know how and have the money the only things I probably would do is change the oil and water pump.

I agree with the water pump thing. I think now's the best time to do it since everything's apart.

If you do not replace your piston rings they will be gone in just a few thousand miles, I did the exact same thing you are doing to my D16Z6 and my piston rings were gone in like 1500 miles.
If you do not want to take it back apart that soon, do yourself a favor and change your rings.

Also make sure your P2W clearances are all in spec. i believe .002 is the service limit.
