Default installing a tachometer on my 95 civic DX coupe

I am trying to install a tach on my 95 civic DX coupe which doesnt have a tachometer. I know the tach wire is solid blue from the distributor. Does that solid blue wire lead to behind the intructment cluster to the speedometer gauge? Or I could connect to the distributor, if so whats the best way to get pass my firewall? Do i have to remove my dashboard, drill a hole, etc ??? Please be specific if u can. Thank YOu.

The blue wire runs from the distributor to both a test connecter under the hood near the firewall, and to the tach connection for the stock gauge. Even if the stock cluster didn't come with the tach. Best route is still through the firewall though, and spliced to the test connector. There should be a rubber grommet in the firewall where the stock wiring harness feeds through, use this route for the wire. No need to drill anything. You will probably have to remove the panel under the steering wheel to make wiring simpler, no need to remove more.

(Tip: make a small hole in the grommet, then force a small deep socket, 10mm or less, through to act as a guide for the wire. once wire is through, slide socket out and off of wire.)
I did this about 5 hours ago on my 98 DX by the way, getting the info I needed using the search function. There are several posts about tach installs.

The search is your friend, get to know it.
