I have an OEM AM/FM/CD stereo from a 1999 Civic that I'd like to put into my 1997 CRV. The installer I went to said the wiring on the two stereos is different and therefore incompatible. Is there any way to put the CD player in? Right now, I just have the AM/FM head unit in the CRV with an accessory tape player. Any advice is appreciated.

Should be plug and play. Honda hasn't changed the plugs on their radios since the late 80's.

yes, the connectors have changed from 97 to 99..
easiest way to determine...the plug on your 97 will be a grey colored plug..
and the 99 will be a blue colored plug.. : )
2 different sizes and NOT compatible...

and btw...if you look carefully at the left side of the Civic radio it has a slight curve and will not fit properly into the CRV...

actually, i believe that curve is on the 96-98
my gf has a 99 and it has the heat controls on the left hand side of the radio while my 96 has the heat controls below the radio and a slight curve to the radio

speaking of this, do they make a install kit for the 96 to fix that or how is it done to put an aftermarket DIN in it's place???

All you need to do is get the male wiring harness for your 99 civic and then get the female harness for your 97 crv and wire them together. The wire colors will match. A company called Metra has all this stuff. Any "good" car audio store should be able to hook you up.
