Default INSTALL 92-95 Civic (EG) Shocks and Springs

Hey everybody, Does anyone have any tips or tutorials on how to install Stock Shocks and Springs on a 92-95 Civic Hatch (EG). I has some BS coilovers on it and decided I'd like to go back to the stock set-up. Have never done this myself. AND IF NOT WHAT IS THE MOST I SHOULD PAY A MECHANIC TO DO IT. I have the shocks ready to go

If you plan on doing it yourself you will need a spring compressor. You can pick one up at most hardware stores for like $40..

you can loan a tool one for free from Autozone, but it really sucks. I suggest that you remove shock/spring assembly and take it to shop and let them swap the stock springs back on for you. it shouldn't cost you more than $30-40 for a shop to do it if you have them off the car. Trust me on this one I did it last weekend

Swapping out the suspension is pretty simple... the only thing that could make it harder are the damn bolts that seize inside most of the bushings.

If you do it yourself, rent a spring compressor and a torque wrench... the last thing you want to do it overtighten a bolt.

Around where I live, most of the places charge $50 per wheel.

go to autozone and pick up one of those flyers that say do it yourself... they have diff ones like shocks.. o2's.. fuel pumps.. stuff like that just go pick one up

it really easy then as long as you don't have any bolts snap on you.

Then what else do you need to know? If it's already pre-assembled then you won't need the spring compressor.

Just unbolt your current setup and remove them then install the new ones.

Like Egsleeper said, it's easy as long as theres no broken bolts during the install.

In my opinion if the bolts are looking shitty you could try to repair it (once its out that is) or buy new ones. The best way to remove bolts like that is hit it with an impact at the normal 90psi. I have never broken one of those bolts. Slowly increasing the torque and maintaining it will weaken the bolt if its really bad, so don't pull for too long if it isn't moving when using hand tools. Pb Blaster and a wire brush, maybe spray the bolts and let them sit for a few hours, then try.


The install your talking is so simple its almost common sense. Like saxqtzk said, "Just unbolt, it's easy."
