Input shaft bearing?

Default Input shaft bearing?

So i'm pretty sure my input shaft bearing has gone bad and I just figure this out right after I put my tranny back in and everything back together... it's the clutch in- no noise clutch out- slight grinding noise... so someone responded to my other saying it was probably that and i read a bunch of other forums saying that was probably it... so if i replace the input shaft bearing is there anything else i need to do or should do while i have the tranny out as i don want to have to do this again also how do i fix a slight grind in 3rd gear (possibly the synchro) do i need a new pilot bearing or anything? i dont wanna have to take off my tranny again as i work 35 hours a week and school 5 days a week.

clutch in = no noise
cluth out = grinding noise

That noise is your input shaft bearing. And since you are taking your tranny out agian you should also replace a throwout bearing. Both can make the same similar noises, such as a grinding swish noise or a laundry dryer noise. Good luck guys!

When the clutch is ingaged and the grinding noise occurs, that is the throw-out bearing. When the clutch is out, in neutral and the grinding noise occurs, that is the input shaft on your transmission. When I had my 92' Integra, I replaced the clutch @ 170,000 miles with a new Exedy clutch plate, pressure plate, NNK throw-out bearing, Exedy lightned flywheel, new pilot bearing, and an intermediate shaft with 90,000 miles on it and the noise would still occur when in neutral sitting still. This same transmission is now in my EG civic and the noise never got any better or worst. I change the fluid regularly with either Honda genuine manual transmission fluid or preferrably Redline manual transmission fluid every 3,000-5,000 miles at least. When my 5th gear syncro was gettin crunchy, all I did was add Redline fluid and the syncro quit grinding right awayif you baby that gear for a couple hundred miles or so. I also have used GM syncro mesh and it also gets those syncros to quit grinding. If you don't like the noise, all I can say is get a new transmission with about 60,000 miles on it or you can try to repair the input shaft bearing. I know from experience, tearing a Honda or Acura transmission apart IS NOT NO PICNIC and should be left up to professionals that work on transaxles and rear-ends everyday that know what they are doing. I dont care how good of a wrench or mechanic you think you are or how many different tools you got, you will never have the specific tools needed to take a trans. apart or the experience. I will never do that again

Of course you have to take the trans apart pull the gear clusters out to get at the input shaft bearing. Check out http://www.zbag.com they have a bearing syncro kit for under 200. It contains all the major bearings diff, inputshaft, and counter shaft , along with the sychros, and all the trans seals. make sure you have a shop manual and enjoy. Its not a bad job it just takes some time.

I replaced my input shaft bearing, it was actually easy. There is a write up from someone with pictures. I will look it up for you.
