Default Idle problem

Question with iac valve.... I have a 97 civic with fluctuating idol... Whenever I tap on it the idol goes back to normal temporarily... Is it save to say that it's the cause of my symptoms?

It could be. Or it could be low coolant. Or it could be something else. Please don't hijack other people's threads, and please don't bump old, dead threads. Start your own.

Rxn155 I would say the IACV is probably your issue.

Just as an update since the thread got revived, I ended up going and getting an OEM IACV from the local parts pulling yard and re-adjusting idle after installing, this took care of the problem. I believe the new replacement I tried first was slightly different from the OEM one.

Nope. New members can create their own tech threads.

You now have your own thread.

You could also have a sticking throttle plate in the throttle body. This is easily identifiable by turning the throttle bracket by hand and feeling if sticks on release and also see if it returns all the way or if you have to force it to return to it's true home position.

The solution to this scenario is a good throttle body cleaning with throttle body cleaner, and if you want to be thorough, you actually pull the throttle body off (requires a new gasket) and clean all sides of the butterfly valve.

Generally, a stuck open throttle plate will not throw code P0505 because that looks normal to the ECU.

Also, I've found it easiest with this throttle body/iacv combo to just pull off the throttle body, clean it, pull the IACV apart and clean it, and then put it all back together, making sure that the whole throttle system is cleaned and functioning correctly.

In my defense, I can't see where the OP mentioned a code in this thread.

You need no defense. My mistake. I mixed up threads.
