Re: ICAV and Idling screw spec (jordan88)
You have to adjust the screw with the IACV 2P connector disconnected and the engine running at operation temperature.
And then look at your tach...or hook one up if you don't have one. And check the idle speed as you turn the screw.

The 2P connector is the only plug/wiring going into the IACV. Hard to miss.
I can't remember what the stock idle is...Somewhere below 1000RPM I guess.
Just remember that the engine has to be up to normal operation temperature before you do anything. Let the fan come on twice and that should tell you its ready. Or look at your water temp guage.
Yeah k the CEL is still thurr even if the light doesn't come on anymore.
Jump your service check connector for proof...it should still flash code 14.

Re: ICAV and Idling screw spec (R_EG)
And I was just thinking...if your IACV is indeed broken or some wiring went loose somewhere then adjusting the idle screw probably won't do very much of..anything.
Hopefully the IACV is just durrty.

Re: ICAV and Idling screw spec (R_EG)
ok, i cleaned, i used carb cleaner and clean the screen, cleaned it so that screen gril thing doesn't have any black stuff on it, and clean the other hole as well, so the inside is like white now.
So i started, but when i started, it doesn't started very good, maybe caused by the carb cleaner.
but for some reason, my rpm sometimes would go lower than 500rpm when i let the gas out when putting in neutral. also sometimes the rpm would stay at 600-750rpm and suddenly would increase rpm by around 100-200 rpm.
is this normal, i dun even remember how the rpm would be b4.
help please!!!
thx guys!!!
I appreciate all the help.

Re: ICAV and Idling screw spec (jordan88)
i have a 97 civic ex coupe. In the haynes manual is says that stock idle is 670rpm +-50rpm
Also, it says that for our ex y8 models, you don't need to disconnect the 2p connector
hope this helps some

I wouldn't put too much trust into the Haynes manual....the Helms (factory service manual) says that you DO disconnect the IACV 2p connector in order to set the base idle speed which should be around 500rpm. Upon plugging it back in, the idle should be around 700rpm.
When setting the idle on an engine equipped with a 3-wire IACV, you do NOT disconnect the 3p connector.

Re: ICAV and Idling screw spec (EE_Chris)
is that connector connects to the black round thing of the iacv?
so i will need to disconnect it and then set the idle screw to around 500rpm right?
once i finished setting the idle screw, do i need to turn off the car before plug the connector back in or just plug it back in with the car on?
thx
