Or is it easier to replace the whole rack and pinion?

Best thing I could say is buy a manual if you don't already have one.

Personaly, I would reccomend pulling the entire subframe out with the rack still attached to it.
I've never had to pull a rack out just by it self, but I can tell it wont be easy.

Thats what I plan on doing I just have to put the bushings in.

Having a couple buddies there would be a good idea as well.

It's rather simple to get it out, but can be a pain in the ***. I always have the hardest time with the rear mount, and bitch pin.

One of my main concerns is what would need to be disconnected

Yes, you would need to unhook it from the column. It wouldn't come out if you didn't lol.

This would also be a great time to do tie rods, if you need them.

Removing the Rack is a pain in the ****. I would not recommend it just for replacing some bushings.
