if you just want to gain a bit of hp and not have to go turbo or swap route, you can upgrade your cam and cam gear, get a aem cold air intake, some dc headers, pistons, and chip your ecu, that will pump out some reliable hp, other wise id upgrade your internals, and go turbo.

a turbo setup properly built will not really decrease engine life. As with any engine the more you beat on it the faster it is going to wear out. If your not hitting boost all the time it will be fine. But you need a reliable setup and a good tune for it to function right.

Beat DOHCs all day for 400 bux, c'mon B series were the most powerful engines per litre for 15 years don't believe 400 bux is gonna make your SOHC faster, MO keep it simple or go mental no half ways, full exhaust and intake + headers and a Fuel pressure regulator, and get it on a rolling road. i think this will be well suited to your needs for 1-2 grand.

Cost effective + good boost in hp = Home made turbo setup.
Forget N/A if you are not willing to spend a pretty penny andddd strip out all your interior to save weight.
Go boost, keep full interior, ac, and power steering and call it a day. Yeah, it might ruin your motor if you abuse it. A proper tune, maintenance, and common sense can go A LONG WAY.

Re: How to make my stock civic faster
yes sir...me like it.....and I think a ebay intake will be good enough for cheap way out and if you think the intake dont give you enough power...go supercharge and turbo=extra work/cleaning..
U could get a Header but with no muffler/catback (u dont like) u will not benifit much.

Re: How to make my stock civic faster
i agree with the cold air intake. if you dont plan on swapping engines, just add on to it. :p replace parts with better ones.

Re: How to make my stock civic faster
no. that would be very expensive. And Intake with turbo? No. Intake doesn't do anything with turbo. B16? No, thats an expensive torque less swap. His best option is boost. Otherwise he should just do some bolt ons. He could build his D or swap a LS. But intake with a turbo (wtf) and a b16 would be very expensive, there are better motors for boost.

Re: How to make my stock civic faster
i have a 96 civic ex...4door. Its already sohc vtec so its a little better than a dx with a non vtec. just like yours, i just got mine prolly two months ago and put a Password:JDM intake on it, google that. its carbon fiber looking and fatter than most short ram intakes. i also bought some ebay headers for 80 bucks. they look decent and are okay. and also after buying the headers, get a catback exhaust, and a "test pipe" or cat-delete. it replaces the resonator(or catalytic converter to be specific). these are all bolt on applications i did to my civic, and it was noticibly faster. not much, but you'll be pleased with the results and i spent under 500 dollars on all of it. the PASSWORD:JDM

Re: How to make my stock civic faster
SORRY, DIDNT FINISH THE MSG. the Password:jdm intake is a great investment and i got alot better throttle response from it, plus it sounds real nice at about 5 or 6 rpms.

Re: How to make my stock civic faster
and also, if you're looking to make it ALOT quicker, turbo it. but first, make sure you replace your pistons, camshaft, etc. AEM makes some pretty sweet cam gears as well. so thats something to look up. you can turbo a d16y8 vtec motor but first play it safe by replacing inportant engine components with something better. it will save you alot of time and money than just taking the bone stock civic d-series motor and boosting it, running it for a week, and it blows up. ebay is always the first place i look for everything.

Although yes he does need to learn something about Honda's. You dont replace cam's and cam gears when going boost. You CAN replace those, but usually you go with forged rods and lower compression pistons.
