Reason I ask this is because right now I sit at 88,000 miles and it's coming around to what I think is the timing belt change. I know in the Winter or Spring of next year im either going to do a mini me or d16z6 swap in it and im going to need time to save for either one. Now I know they say 90,000 to 100,000 change the belt but how far can you go before something may happen because I would love to save for one of the 2 I said above in which they both will have a new timing belt anyway. Just dont want to waste money on that change(in which Im getting a shop to change if need be) and i will have to change it again when I do one of the 2 I said....thanks for the help. Basiclly how many miles can I go before something may happen?

You really gotta look at the belt, if it looks worn/frayed you should replace it. I wouldn't let it go past 110 personally.

look at belt.. and decide..... then again one honda i owned i never changed the oil filter for 2-3 yrs.. how much do u like your honda.

Do you have to remove anything to see the belt or can you see it right from the engine bay?

No one can tell you exactly how long a belt will last. Of course, if you inspect it and the belt is obviously damaged or worn, then it's time to replace it. However, even a belt that looks perfectly fine can still need to be changed, so you can't judge simply by looking. Pro Street has a complete timing belt kit (sans water pump) for your car that's less than $70, and a timing belt alone can be be purchased for around $30 from the same site.

What is the age on the belt? There is a age and mile limit Honda sets. If you are unsure, change it. I've seen them go 150k miles and i've seen a 90 Civic belt go at 40k because of age. Also looking at a belt can be very decieving and I would not use that as a basis for not changing it.

Agreed, mine went out at 75k, good thing nothing happened to the engine.

Well it's a 1995 Honda Civic Dx and it sits at 88,000 miles right now. Trying to hold of so I can either save for the parts for the mini me or a d16z6 swap that is why im seeing how far i can go so maybe I dont have to replace it until i do either the mini me which you need a different one or the one with the d16z6 swap.

just do a DIY belt change, don't worry about the pump.

if it's a man trans, have a friend put it in 4th gear, and hold the brakes. then use a giant breaker bar to break that bolt loose.

if its the original belt from 1995, change it, its just too old. Belts are cheaper than engines

Yea, there really is no set time period when it WILL fail. So changing it sooner is always better then later.

110,000 miles or till the belt brakes.

(I would change it sooner and replace the water pump too because the belt drives the pump.

Pump sieze = @#^$&%*&$^# &lt;----that's parts.

bought my car with original belt at 135k, didnt change it until 144k, cause the water pump started leaking from being worn out. bought my wifes ex at 150somethingk and still had original belt had it changed the next day. and always change your water pump when you do that belt, at the 90,000 intervals.

When I did my belt it was at 105k and it was missing three teeth. It will never see 105k again, stupid previous owner...

thats like asking? how many times should i mess around with *****'s?
just messin, like stated above, belts are cheaper than a new motor, visally check it out like Dustin said, and if it looks cracked or worn in any way, replace it, better to be safe then sorry.

Should be fine if you do your mini-me swap. Though how much miles do you intend on putting on in the winter?
