how to hold cam gears while timing
this may be a dumb question but how do you hold the cam gears while timing my engine (b16a) do i set the cam gears then tighten the caps holding the cams in place?

You mean with adjustable cam gears? Loosen the cap screws on the gear, hold the cam in place with a wrench on the cam shaft hex flats to stop it from moving and also to adjust the cam advance/retard while the gear is loose. Tighten when done.

bolt down the camshafts, make sure the crank pulley is at the last mark (TDC) and THEN set your cam gears with the timing belt.
