Default How do you adjust the shifter linkage? 2nd gear pops out

I just got done swapping motors and installing a new passenger axle and clutch, pressure plate, flywheel etc. and now 2nd gear pops out. Only second gear, I'm using my old transmission and never had a single issue out of it before now. Tried searching but found nothing.

So you're telling me it went from being 100% to popping out almost immediately in the span of a day for a swap?

I find that real hard to believe. I have a spare transmission, hell I have two. I don't want to pull the crap apart again.

Yes. The only bolts I removed were the two on the trans case for the (I'm assuming) pivot arm, the one through the arm on the mount at the case and the two that go through the bushing under the tunnel behind the shifter. Other than that it was just the pin and c-clip that ensures the pin doesn't fall out on the other linkage arm. All are scurely in their original locations.

did you make sure all mounts were in good condition? are your shift linkage bushings still good?

i get pop outs in 3rd and 5th gear (the top position gears)

and they pop out ONLY when i left off the gas suddenly and make the engine rock

It's used, what do you expect? It amazes me the amount of people that buy swaps and expect to install them and have zero issues.

I recall a customer who came to us for a B16 swap and he had so little funds that we offered a huge discount on our labor so he could afford to replace the things you should when doing a swap and he totally skipped everything. I wasn't surprised to see him a week later with a busted timing belt and some bent valves. The comedy of the whole thing was he came squawking that we sold him a bum engine.

You sir, need to read. I used my good transmission. I used it because I KNEW it was working perfectly. I replaced the engine and pulled the trans off it as another spare to avoid any such issues. Had you read, I stated that in the first post. I only replaced the clutch etc. because it was already out of the car and figured I might as well do it all at one time. I replaced the timing belt, waterpump, thermostat, tensioner etc on the used engine since I did not know when it was done last despite all of them appearing to be good. I'm not one of your customers.

The torque mounts look like they could benefit from being replaced, driver specifically, but other than that they're good. Linkage bushings all appeared to be in good shape as well. Only thing that I saw in bad shape was the rubber boot that keeps the dust and dirt out from the exterior is torn.

well one thing that could cause it on the shift linkages itself there is a little bit the rod that extends towards the rear of the car check if that it is hitting the exhaust shield or something, if its preventing you from getting into 2nd fully its gonna pop out, have an assistant shift it around while you look at the linkages

Thanks for the tip, I'll check for any interference.

When I put it in gear you can see the shifter shaking as I drive until it pops out of gear. If nothing is blocking it is the bad torque mount enough to cause that to happen?

that actually sounds like a motor mount to me, but another thing is did you use honda manual tranns frluid or just 10w 30 motor oil, the oil will work but honda stuff has better friction modifiers added into thier fluid to help the syncros grip better too, if that is the case then you could also have a 2nd gear syncro

I think it is a motor mount as well. From a stop, slowly letting off the clutch you can feel the vibrations more as the power starts to build.

Is there a prefered aftermarket replacement for a stock engine or should I seek an oem mount? I don't ever plan to try and make real power out of the engine.
