You can pull the cable with some pliers to pop the hood. There's still part of the plastic handle sticking out from the kick panel yes?

So NO part of the hood release is protruding from the kick panel? If not...you can either, remove the kick panel and see if it's not sticking out from there or jack the car up, pull the driver side fender lining back and pull on the cable from there to relese the latch. However...you'll want to replace the hood latch/cable fairly soon if this is the case.

its easy to fix yourself.

First, take off your bumper and check out what is going on up there, normally the plastic handle INSIDE the car is what breaks. I have an awesome fix if this is the case.

If not, you may need a new cable. You can get one from a junkyard or honda and replace yourself. You'll need to pull down most of your splashguard to get the cable out.

So you pull on the cable and nothing happens? Ouch...this will be tricky. What year civic do you have? If it's a 96-00 civic...you might be able to reach the latch from thru the grill but it will be tuff. Look for the black cord that is the hood release cable.

Strip away part of the Plastic Sheath for the Cable, and use Pliers to pull the Cable (bare cable only). It won't do anything to pull on the Sheath & Cable together...

I have an extra 74130-S01-A01 available if you need it (96-00 Hood Wire Assembly, including Grommet)...

Hope this helps...

NINJA You must either weld your Cable back together, or get another one. There isn't nearly enough slack to recover 3.5'... also, this will be a great opportunity for you to reroute your Hood Release Cable through the Engine Bay!!!!

hold the cable in your hand, and pull back on the latch. You said it all fell off in one piece. That's how I had to open mine for a whole year. It all came off in one piece with cable still attatched. Seriously, hold the cable tight with your fingers (not the inside but the outside of the cable..black part) and just pull back on the latch/plastic piece with your other hand.
