Default Honda Civic Radio Code

Hi everyone,

I have a honda civic 2000 with VIN 2HGEJ661XYH548523 and I can't seem to find the radio code anywhere. I tried retrieving the code from https://radio-navicode.honda.com/ but I don't have the phone number nor the zip code when the car got purchased, as I got my car is used.

Any help is really appreciated.

They won't charge if you call by phone.

I've seen people say you can get the code from the radio, but it seems that only works on newer models.

Remove your radio. Look for the serial number on the radio.

Call your Honda dealership.

Tell them your serial number.

They will give you your radio code and then you can put it in and your radio will work again.

You only need one thing, technically: the radio serial number. However, when I went down to the dealership, they also asked me for my registration and my driver license. However, they did it for FREE. If your dealership wants to charge you, walk away.

I have had two '97 Civics and a '98 Civic here (and countless '92-'00 radios) and never have I been asked for a registration or VIN.

You NEED the serial number on the radio for the '96-'00 Civics.

You might want to try talking to different people there. I've never been charged.

oh yeah, oops. Forgot to add in the key ingredient, the serial number.

But yeah, when I went to the dealership, I brought the deck in, and they just wanted to see my registration to make sure I owned the car, and my ID to confirm it was my car.

It seems like it's different everywhere...since some people say dealerships have refused them, or charged them anywhere from $5 to over $100! And that's why I threw my two cents in, because I've actually done it myself

Wow way to ride the fail boat Honda. Put a anti theft radio in it just to give the code to anyone over the phone.

i know right!!! i was reading this and was like "WTF!?" isnt the damn code to keep people from stealing it and being able to use it? so pretty much all they have to do is steal it, call honda, give them the serial number and you'll get your code for your brand new stolen Honda radio. Nice... oh and again... FAIL!

Maybe it's just me then.

I've helped my local Honda dealership recover a stolen car of theirs (black '99 Civic Si). I get a discount because of that. I'm in Honda all the time. Some of the people know me by name (parts, cashier, a few salesmen, service writer, maybe a tech or two). There's even an employee on here who knows of me coming into the dealership. I couldn't remember him, but he says he could probably point me out of a crowd, even if it's just because of my car. lol

So maybe I don't just seem like just anyone walking off the street. Hell, when I call up I say, "Hey, Scott. This is Amy." Then I get a warm welcome back.

We go through a lot of stock radios here at my house though. I know I can't be the only one.

It'd be unfortunately to buy a radio used and Honda refuses to give me the code because the radio isn't from my car.

It does force any thief to contact Honda at least.

Yeah, it's just you. When you establish a trustworthy relationship with anyone, really, they're willing to bend the rules a little bit. Normally though, that would be pretty crappy if they just give the code to anyone over the phone

Moral of the story: it's important to forge good human relationships.
