Did you take the cluster out and check the bulbs?

Pry the dimmer switch out of the dash, uncouple the connector, and install a jumper wire that connects the red and black wires. Do the lights now work? If so, the dimmer is bad.

Travis... it sounds like you definitely have a shorted wire, my guess is ground.

in both cases check the dimmer switch, like was already said, take the switch outta dash, what i had to do however was to reach in the dash and pop the harness that the wires go into off of the mount inside the dash that way there is more wiggle room for the wires to move without shorting.

not sure why but my clock actually dims too..... not surprised tho the previous owner liked to hack into wires for no reason

I have the same exact prob. But was not as lucky as monkey_boi with the quick fix of a jumper wire. All of my bulbs are fine, no inadvertent spliced wires anywhere within the harness. Although when I do jump the dimm. switch wires my fuse blows, which usually means I have a short in the wire (but I don't) I have a spare cluster and when this one is hooked up the backlights work no problem.

Any Takers?

The short is in the original cluster itself. Carefully inspect the bulb sockets for the back lights.
