Well i just got a ref. ticket. and im not sure what to do.
i was just wondering what i have to do?
The reasons are:
27150 (a) Mod Exhaust
27156(b) Mod Smog
Thats what he put down.
But he told me that i had to go to BAR for Mod Exhaust, Aftermarket
Fuel Pressure Regulator, intake, and JDM engine.
So does my ticket state i have to Swap engines?
What are my options? help me H-T

dang so do they actualy MAKE you pop your hood and show off your underhood stuff? how do they know it's a jdm motor? and i guess for the "easy" stuff wouldn't you be able to just put stock parts on to "pass" inspection?

yes they do. Over here we have alot of theifs and illegal street racing that kills many people. why do they do it? because of chop shops and people who break the laws everyday.

anyways I have a friend whos a cop. He is a very close friend of mines so I had him inspect my motor. He told me what I should do to avoid a ticket. Anyways long story short an officer is aloud to pull you over and inspect under your hood if they find reasonable cause such as speeding, excessive speeding, racing, loud exhaust and smoke and the smell coming out of the back of your exhaust. anyways the cops go thru a training course or class where they learn about illegal modifications and have to pass to be certified. If the cop gives you a ticket and is NOT certified to look under your hood, then most likely the ticket claim will be thrown out therefore your free. Most of the time they are certified. He also tells me that out of all the jdm motors out there illegally modified HONDA motors puts out the most smogg in california therefore we cant complain.

Now what you can do is provide receipts of the jdm motor. Meaning there probably isnt a vin tag on the tranny. My friend tells me that you can swap out your motor for a single cam if you can find one. And he owns and drives a 99 civic si stock though and hes a cop.

over here where i live, i talked to a CHP and i told him if i have a stock exhaust can you guys stop me?? he told me in his own words " WE CAN STOP ANY HONDA WE WANT EXHAUST OR NOT, THATS WHY WERE ALL WORKING OVERTIME, he also told me if your car looks like it might have something there gonna stop you. so pretty much if you drive a honda thats lowered or has rims your getting stopped, so if next time your crusing and theres a cop in back of you, just pull over before he even puts the lights on, he might take it easy on you for saving him the trouble of flippin a switch.

Out here in VA we get away with murder on our hondas lol,

seriously stuff you guys in cali would never ever get by with.

No emissions, no vin checks, no cat checks, no suspension hieght checks, if you got a bottle you don't get a ticket (atleast nobody I know), inspection stickers from friends, etc...lol I've been runin a JDM B16 OBD0 with no cat for 4 years...

The most you ever get is an exhaust ticket if your caught vtec'n, and maybe search your car for drugs.

I really don't understand how you guys in cali put up with it, or how you jump through all these loopholes?!?!?

I used to complain about this all the time and people thought I was just paronoid. when I was stationed in California, I was in a car club the only honda in the club, everyone was so extremely modified, and I only had bolt ons. we used to drive to car shows in groups, I usually be in the middle of the convoy, and the cops would come in the middle to pull me out and give me tickets for lowered, tints, non smog header. I will never go back to that that state even if they payed me. I am now even in much more gayer place than california.(Germany) the only difference is. you can legally get away with it if you pay to have the mods. I am protected by the Army so they hate us because the only inspection we get is for safety.

Well, i also heard that when you transfer the car into some one else name the ref ticket goes away? is that true?

I have a jdm d15b vtec.


but i think that guy was like one of those "street racing crack down teams" guy. he new it was a (JDM d15b With vtec) And i had and aftermarket FPR.

Well im not sure what ill do but im deffinatly gunna throw that d16z6/y8 in there!

i hate living in cali.
got pulled over cuz i was running no cat on my civic(**** was loud as hell).
and i was LITERALLY on my way to get my cat back on so it wouldnt be so loud.
half way there, a freaking bike cop pulls me over and gives me a fix it ticket!

no if you do that you'll still get stuck with the 380 for the reff. i think you shoud just work on that engine, make it legal, change fpr and everything else that you shouldnt have, im sure it'll pass the reff. has it passed smog??

yea living in cali with a honda sucks, i have a civic and a crx, and i cant drive them, i always gotta use my girls ride to go everywhere makes me feel like a bum n ish, sucks to b asking for a ride or askin to use someone elses car. well imma about to take my engine outta my civic, i bought a d16z6 swap for 350 so all thats gonna change. let you guys kno how fast i get pulled over.

fuc k that. i just payed the ref ticket. i didn't wanna even bother going to the ref cuz i knew i would have to do all kinds of crap. it was just easier for me to pay the ticket. with the speeding ticket, it was around $530. so i'm guessing the ref fine by itself was around $350. and you can get a 2 month extension to pay. i always wait for the very last day lol.

So if i pay the ticket still have to put new motor in.
so i might as well just swap the motor .
i have a jdm engine i dont think it will pass

dude all you have to do is get a legal usdm honda motor and do the swap. And just dont modify anything like header unless its smog legal etc... whats so hard with following the rules? you can get a stock b16a2 motor and swap that in and it will be legal and still way faster than a d16z6 swap and you can still pass smog. just get it bard first

I'm pretty sure the D15B Vtec is now on the list of legal transplants for 5th gen civics, you will have to do some stuff like add the purge solenoid to make it pass though.
