Help with parts list for head gasket replacement D16y7
Okay I need to replace the head gasket on my D16y7:
Head gasket
Intake gasket
Exhaust gasket
Oil/filter
Coolant
Headbolts
Now.... what else? Also on majestic honda: http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...ry5=GASKET+KIT
Does one of the kits come with the headbolts?
Also I hear Felpro is the **** (i.e. BETTER than OEM Honda). Is this true? I need some advice on brands and all that.

I just did a headgasket. I used felpro titanium (its the most expensive my auto part store had in stock.. $40)
You need all gaskets, intake/exhaust.
valve cover gasket (you gotta take it off, and shouldn't reuse old ones, however u can)
valve stem seals (optional, but, your there)
0-rings (optional, but...your there)
10 head bolts ( you can chance re-using them...many do with no problem) i didnt
cam seal (optional, but..you know)
copper headgasket spray (optional but the can was like $6)
And, not for nothing but...I strongly suggest you do the timing belt/water pump- you got it apart, its basically just another 20 mins.

stock head bolts will be perfectly fine as long as they have not been tq previously. id personally use them even if they were tq down a couple times.
why would you remove the intake to replace the head gasket. and why would you replace the exhaust manifold gasket. they are steel and i have probably reused them things like 50 times with no leaks
there are no cam seals on dseries
valve
cover gasket will be fine. in fact most times when i replace them they start to leak
i would replace the timing belt if its old
but if it were me. id clean the surface and slap a new head-gasket fill the fluids and be done with it. and i have done the same process 100 times

you dont need intake mani gasket UNLESS you have to take the manifold off to remove the head, not too sure on Y7's, exahust mani gasket though you might want to do !

The way I see it with gaskets...(not necessarily the metal exhaust ones) I mean more like the rubber gaskets...
The car I changed the headgasket on had well over 150k on it, and was a 95. Meaning the gaskets were a good 17-18 years old. I think in everything I had like 100 bucks in (got a great deal on OEM headbolts, in honda bags for $30 shipped though which helped ALOT!) Anyhow, I dont trust any rubber part of the engine for 18 years. I dont care if its leaking or not. I dont want it to leak tomorrow or next month when Im on the highway for a 300 mile trip, so I change it...all.
Regardless, now i did it all in one shot...and if I can get anything near another 10 years out of them, I got my money back 10 fold.
I look at re-using parts as cutting corners in a way, or in other words, I dont want to have to take the head back off the engine and redo the job to say replace a gasket or whatever. My work schedule is pretty crazy, so its a one shot deal, I take a day, do the job...and be done with it. We are already saving probably a 1000 bucks by doing it DIY...whats the difference if you change the part or not.
Could you do a $60 headgasket job? sure
could you do it for $150 with all new parts? yep
or the other option is take it to the dealer and bend over and pay over $800.
So in other words, I understand where the other posters are coming from....however I disagree. Do the job, do it right...change all the parts. If your hurting for cash...just worry about the gasket. If you got $100...just change them. Or at least thats what my opinion is

The work was supposedly done by a shop and I have the receipts (previous owner got it 'done') though I now have a blown headgasket less than 2 years later. I know it's a headgasket. Supposedly according to the receipts a water pump was put in but now knowing the shop was a huge con I doubt that too. I'm trying to sell the car so I'll probably just replace all the gaskets, no waterpump but i'll check the timing belt out to be sure for that at least. The car has 182,xxx miles on it, oil changes are on schedule and all that but yeah.
This is the write-up I'll be going by: http://www.civic-eg.com/viewtopic.php?t=2865
If anyone has any advice or advises against certain steps please speak up and have an example/reference why.
