whats up. i checked other forums and couldn't find anything similar to my problem. The car needle goes over the halfway mark on the temp gauge but doesn't overheat. This happens after driving it for about 20 miles. I changed the thermostat 2x, bled it, checked for clogs, leaks, rad fan, water pump for leak and play and everything is good. I am killing myself trying to figure this out and i can't so im asking for help. I don't think its the headgasket cause theres no sign of it being bad.

Have you tested your coolant temperature sensor?

Are you talking about the sensor where the t stat is? i didn't replace that because i thought it was just for the fan to blow on and my fan is working good

Are you running straight water or mixed? If mixed what is the ratio? What is the ambient temperature where you live? All these things are factors.

I am runing 50/50 straight coolant. The temp around here is 85-90. When i head out to work early in the morning its about 65 degress and it doesn't go past the halfway mark on the gauge but when i head home in the afternoon its like steam hot 85-90 degress and after driving it for about 20 miles it goes up past the half mark. If i turn the AC on it shoots up alot more but i usually shut it off quick

It maybe just the heat and humidity (that time of year). If your vehicle cooling system is doing its job, I wouldn't sweat it. As long as your fans are working, thermostat, and you have coolant no leaks, or overflows, I would just keep an eye on it. Its hot where I live as well and I hav noticed that the thermo gauge is a little higher than normal.

Is your ac fan kicking on?


Have you checked for debris in the rad core, wouldn't hurt to clean it out, might have bugs, leaves, etc.

One last thing, you mentioned that your fan is kicking on, does it sound like the motor is putting 100% out or is the fan kind of slow? Reason I ask is my buddy had an issue where the fan was kicking on but the motor was going out and wasn't spinning as fast as it should have been.

What kind of engine do u have? Any DOHC needs a dual core radiator to effectively cool in hot places. Also test the temperature sending unit, maybe its not overheating, but the gauge might be off....just shooting ideas

Is the fins on your radiator clogged with bugs or dirt?

Yea the fan to to the ac is working and also kicking hard. I did check for debris and i didn't see anything serious. What i do see is small little white fibers at the top but i don't think its something to worry about. I do know for sure that its definitely not clogged.

i had the same problem on my accord and it was that my a/c fan was working at full speed. I would definitely suggest having them checked by someone. Or replacing them. cause it shoots up when u turn the a/c on. so it obviously has something to do wit that.

AC is a pain in the ***, robs your engine of power, makes your engine work harder to do the same job, and is just one more thing to go wrong in the mess of bullshit held together by rubber bands (basically lol)

I would just delete it and tough it out in the temps! :D It has been 78-90 degrees here every day.....Screw power steering, and screw A/C! Just my two cents though...lmfao!

Coolant temp sensor is different that the thermo sensor on the thermostat housing.

There is no such thing as a thermo switch, the electrical plug located on the thermostat housing is the radiator fan switch. Coolant temp sensor sits underneath the dizzy, only has 1 wire running to it. But i doubt that its bad cause it has nothing to do with ac or with the outside air temp but its only a couple of bucks so its worth a try. Im thinking that your water pump is on its way out.

Is it the original radiator in the car? Over time the cooling fins separate from the radiator cores and lose the ability to dissipate heat. Caused by corrosion especially if you live near the ocean where there is salt in the air. If you run your fingernail over the radiator fins do they appear brittle and flake off?
Might just need a new radiator.
