Hi, so this code has been here on and off for the last few months, including before my Z6 Intake Manifold swap. So I went through the honda service manual for the code and went through the Diagnosis Flowchart.

It pointed me to testing the the EVAP Purge Control Solenoid. The instructions were as follows:

CHECK EVAP PURGE CONTROL SOLENOID VALVE:
1. Disconnect the 2P connector from the EVAP Purge Control Solenoid Valve
2. Quickly raise the engine speed to 3,000 RPM
IS THERE VACUUM
I got no vacuum SO I proceeded to where it tells me to check the ECU/ wire short

CHECK FOR A SHORT IN THE WIRE (PCS Line):
1. Turn ignition switch OFF
2. Disconnect ECM/PCM connector A (32P)
3. Check for continuity between the EVAP Purge Control Solenoid Valve 2P connector terminal no. 2 and body ground
IS THERE CONTINUITY
i got no continuity so I proceeded and the flow chart says to substitute a known good ECU and recheck, if symptoms/indicators go away to replace the ECU.

And as reassurance I checked the continuity between the no.2 terminal and the terminal that wire is in at the ECU connector and had continuity, so that area of the harness has no shorts.

So how common/often is it the ECU itself causing the issue and how common is it that it is the Purge Control Solenoid Valve.

Any/all help is appreciated and I need help asap as I have to get my emissions test done very soon in order to validate my plates.

Its not common, just rare. Since you've made it that far and everything else has checked out than it would be best to try another working ecu.

My 98 ex kept throwing the same code. I Changed out the charcoal canister and solenoid on the firewall and the problem went away. It was over $100 but it worked.

I have already changed the Canister and solenoid, although I used a wrecker part from a lower mileage vehicle, but it is possible that that could be an intermittent problem, because a little bit ago the light went off on its own without a reset then came back on about 2 weeks later.

So off this topic but while doing the a/c delete I noticed this, is that supposed to be open like that? is that a part of the EVAP system? it goes into the little cylinder that is next to the charcoal canister and that little cylinder is connected to the canister.

I just had the same code and fixed it by replacing a rusted out screw which held the cover over the air intake filter. The code was generated because not enough vacuum was drawn due to the cover not fitting tightly and the air leak did not allow sufficient vacuum to be drawn. I merely added a coated wood screw and tightened the filter down. After disconnecting the battery cables - I just touched them together. Remove the ground first and then the positive cable and touch them together and reconnect the positive first.
Hopefully you did not chuck the air filter you replaced with that free flow filter. Being a free flow filter it did not create enough vacuum to allow the system to work properly. If not buy a new standard filter and clear the ECM using the above technique.
