Hi. I took my 99 Honda Civic to a dealer for exhaust manifold recall and they installed a new catalytic converter with no heat shield on at all. Is this normal? Why would they not put a heat shield on??

I talked to on of the guys and he said it's fine to drive the car without heat shield on but I kind don't trust the guy. I asked why didn't they put a new one on and he said because it's not covered by the recall. I asked to put the old one back on and he said he cannot do that either. WTF..am I being screwed here..What should I do?

You are being screwed. And yes, it's safe to drive, but still, you pay them to work on your car, you pay them to do it right. Go talk to a manager. It is illegal for them to withhold your old parts and not give you replacements.

Do you think driving without the catalytic converter heat shield may mess up the radiator (cause it to heat up faster) since it's very close to it? Can someone post some pictures..I wanna see how it looks. I'm not sure if it's worth putting it on.

its there for a reason, talk to the manager. You can sue them for not giving parts back, like it was said before. On that y7 engine, you need that heatshield on there.

I had another post about this but I guess someone deleted it..Anyways, does anyone know how many heat shields are for the exhaust system? Any pics or diagrams?

i drove mine without a heat shield for about a year. i didn't notice any problems without it, but when i got one from the junk yard. i noticed alot less heat when i opened the hood.
