head gasket dilemma

head gasket dilemma
ok, so i recently bought a 93 civic dx w/d15b7 with a blown hg for 500 bucks.
pulled the head off and sent it off to the machine shop and got it milled flat.
but heres the question, iv heard of non-vtec d series hg curse, where its common for non-vtec d series to blow hg's. i bought a d15b7 fel-pro hg but iv heard the d16y8 hg is the strongest d series hg. is that true? will the vtec d series hg's even work on the the non vtec motor? am i better off buying another hg for a d16y8?
also iv heard of over torqueing stock head bolts to ensure a leak free hg. anyone had any luck/problems with doing that?
sorry about all the questions, i just dont want to re-blow this hg.
by the way i plan on boosting 6psi with this motor.
