Default Transmission housing won't get back in place?

I have a 1997 civic cx hatch and im tring to put the transmission housing back on but theres like an inch left that i can't push in? any idea?

try turning the gears to line up the splines i think

The snap ring is probably not seated properly.

Ron wouldn't you have to wait until the case is on completly before installing the snap ring?

Or the clutch disc isn't aligned right and the main shaft isn't going into the pilot bushing, happened to me a dozen times. Make sure the clutch disc is aligned properly, it takes some wiggling sometimes to get the trans seated against the block.

I got it on! it was the bolts with the springs on them that were blocking so i took out those 3 bolts and just reinstalled them once the housing was on
