Default H23 swap in 96 EK... wiring questions

The search engine gave me tons of information... so much information that I've been reading for the past hour and 20 minutes and I'm still unclear. And I'm not even a quarter of the way through one of the 34 page threads, haha. And please do not tell me to get a B series or a H22, this motor is already built and ran in my old prelude set-up... now it's time for a lighter chassy.

I already know everything that is required for the swap, but I'm in the grey region when it comes to the wiring. Basically it's the same as the h22... but you do not have the vtec wires and I'm not going to utilize the EGR either. I will also be using my h23a wire harness from my prelude for the swap and possibly the harness from ecu to firewall if that makes things simpler. Now you have the whole obd2->obd1 issue... that's where I am getting confused in relation to running my entire stock prelude harness.

Do I need to run a civic obd2 harness from the ecu to firewall with the obd2->obd1 conversion harness to the ecu? I will be using a stock prelude p14 ECU for the initial motor break in then swapping to the AEM EMS.

Thanks

is the engine obd1 or obd2
most likely you will have to switch to which ever the motor is

obd1 h23a, sorry. The 96 EK was purchased with no motor, no ecu, and no ecu harness.

So fill me in on this conversion harness.... if i use the COMPLETE h23a harness (yes I have the resistor box), do I need the obd2 conversion harness? How does it relate in reguards to the tachometer and interior wiring? I assume you would only need 1/3rd of a conversion harness? Or am I wrong here....

well since there is no engine wiring then you dont need the conversion harness.
you just need to use all or most of the wiring from the prelude

hmm, i thought there isnt obd1 resistor boxes, only obd0...

the conversion harness is just to enable you to use whatever ecu, for example i put a obd1 ecu/motor into my obd0 car and used the ls harness from my old motor. im not sure exactly what the 96 ek is, i believe its a obd1.

The 92-96 preludes used resistor boxes since the injectors were peak and hold. That makes life easy when you are running 1000cc injectors

Maybe I am retarded, but I gutted the interior and I saw this plug around the ECU area and I think I confused it for a part that goes to the ecu, lol.

Does anyone know where that goes off the top of their head?

I think a wiring pattern a h22 swap harness into a civic will work with a little modification to omit the vtec, you also need the obd2 harness from the civic. But first you have to clean your gross fingernails

off the top of my head that plug, plugs into a plug off the stock civic harness...On the end of the civic harness there is 4 plugs...3 go into the ecu and one goes to the green plug you are holding.

Get a 96-98 EK engine/chassis harness. You need an EK harness, the Prelude one would be a nightmare to integrate into the dash wiring.

Use any connectors from the H23 harness that are needed. (distributor, injectors, alternator)

Use an OBD2A to OBD1 conversion harness with the OBD1 ecu.

Ok, thanks for the info. It looks like this wiring harness is really hard to get a hold of.... are there any other options or does anyone have one for sale?
