Default GUARANTEED way to increase your horsepower in 10 minutes!... Seafoam

***************** EDIT ******************
6/30/12

I recommend that you NEVER USE SEAFORM FOR ANY REASON EVER, PERIOD, NO MATTER WHAT. It will burn out your piston rings and cause your engine to burn oil. Everything I said in this thread was completely wrong, and don't listen to ANY of it, besides this final update.

DO NOT USE SEAFOAM OR YOU'LL DESTROY YOUR ENGINE.

I learned this the hard way. You've been thoroughly warned!

***************** EDIT ******************

***************** EDIT ******************
4/23/2008

I no longer recommend using excessive amounts of seafoam. Use 1/3 bottle ONCE per 100k miles at most.

It's a proven fact that seafoam is the reason my car burns madd oil. The piston rings are basically shot.

I'm leaving this thread exactly as originally posted just for old times sake. But take my warning now...

IF YOU USE TOO MUCH SEAFOAM LIKE I DID, YOUR PISTON RINGS WILL BE GONE AND YOUR CAR WILL BURN OIL LIKE A GOD DAMN OIL REFINERY!

YOU MUST CHANGE YOUR OIL *IMMEDIATELY* AFTER FINISHING A SEAFOAM CYCLE. IN FACT, YOU SHOULD CHANGE THE OIL ONCE, DRIVE A FEW MILES, THEN CHANGE IT AGAIN.

THIS IS BECAUSE PETROLEUM DOES NOT COMPLETELY FLUSH OUT WITH A SINGLE OIL CHANGE, AND PETROLEUM WILL CHANGE THE CONSISTENCY OF YOUR OIL INTO WATER.

THIS IS WHAT CAUSES YOUR PISTON RINGS TO BURN OUT. NOT THE SEAFOAM PROCESS ITSELF...THE LACK OF GOOD OIL AFTER A SEAFOAMING.

If you use it smartly, it can really help your engine smooth out and get rid of some nasty idle problems.

***************** EDIT ******************

Seafoam is an easy and quick way to restore your cars horsepower and torque in a few minutes. It is a mild detergent with petroleum added that removed layered on carbon inside your engine.

Carbon buildup raises compression and heats up very hot and STAYS hot which can easily lead to detonation/preignition, and can literally blow a hole through your engines sidewalls.
It also cakes arount the intake and exhaust ports and around the valves, restricting flow severely.

This is why we have our friend, seafoam, to kill all carbon!

Here's a movie compilation of my coupe and a few buddy's cars on drugs (seafoam).

They all benefited greatly from it.

The ORIGINAL Seafoam video!

A fellow poster made a great seafoam video as well. Sweet!

DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS OF USING SEAFOAM:

This picture is all you need to know to do it.

(I am using a thicker substance - 100% pure petroleum in this picture, hense the cup being tipped, seafoam is as viscous as water in reality. Boy, the crazy **** I do to my motor...pure petroleum in the cold *** winter. This is what i used before I knew about seafoam and Some how, using pure thick *** petroleum made my car so much faster...)

1. Turn the car on

2. Pop open any vacuum line that leads into the intake manifold. The brake booster line is preferrable since its thick and usually leads to the center.

You are going to want to use the line or lines that will let the most amount of seafoam spread evenly throughout the cylinders, otherwise only one or 2 will actually receive the seafoam.

3. Slowely let the vacuum suck in seafoam in about 2 table spoon increments, and then let off and give it some air. You will want someone to constantly tap the throttle so it does not bog out and die. If it starts to bog out, just let off and give it some throttle.

4. Once about 1/4 the can is used, turn the car off. The car will be smoking right now, and you will definately know if you have any header leaks (i know, i seafoamed a car that had huge leaks and could barely breathe).

Let it sit for about 10-15 minutes.

5. Turn the car on be prepared to drive around at at LEAST 4000 rpm constantly until you exhaust no longer smokes. I take my car up to redline when shifting and cruise at about 5600, just enough to keep it in vtec. Be smart with your car though.

6. Repeat with another 1/4 of the can once you no longer blow smoke from the first pass.
Carbon is deposited in layers on the top of the pistons, intake runners and EGR ports (though it probably won't reach the EGR ports anyway), and the seafoam will remove it layer by layer, which is why multiple uses are required.

DON'T USE MORE THAN A FULL CAN IN ANY SEAFOAMING SESSION. I learned this the hard way after using 5 cans of seafoam, and have successfully dried out my valvestem seals causing me to burn oil. 5 is excessive, so don't be affraid that 1/2 a can will do this to you.

CHANGE YOUR OIL WHEN YOU ARE DONE

7. If your car has than 100k miles on it, then you can probably get away with another 1/4-1/2 a can and still benefit from it (because of carbon layering)! As a rule of thumb, perform 1/4 can seafoaming per around 30k miles after the initial use, depending on what kind of hell you put your motor through (driving, oil quality, gas quality, etc).

8. Don't forget to buy a second can for your GAS TANK! (if you have none left over) This stuff works as a great fuel injector and valve cleaner. Don't use more than a half a can in the gas tank, again as you don't want your valve seals excessively exposed to any harsh cleaner. You can also add this to your crank case and drive for about 5-10 miles. Carbon is anywhere gasoline/oil is.

NOTE: A MUCH better oil crankcase and TRANNY cleaner/desludger is AutoRX. It works over about 2500 miles and slowely removes all sludge and varnish. Visit http://www.auto-rx.com or http://www.auto-rx.net

9. Change your oil after you are done. A little bit of seafoam will always leak past your rings into the crankcase. Whether you add it to your crankcase or not, gas tank, or brake booster line, once all the seafoam has been burned through you are going to want to change the oil as it lowers the viscosity of the oil which is not good.

10. If you feel like really getting rid of that carbon, then run seafoam through your spark plug holes.

With the car WARM, (and i mean slightly warm, NOT hot. Putting cold liquid in a hot cylinder is dangerous and can cause cracking.) Take your spark plugs out (make note of what wire goes on which plug, otherwise you will fck up your timing badly if you mix the wires). Put a very small amount, 1-2 tablespoons, in each cylinder. Let it soak. You may see it reacting with the carbon bubbling, or you may not. After 15 minutes, put the plugs back in and drive the hell out of your car (not neccessary to bounce of the rev limited, just 5k rpm) UNTIL it stops smoking, then immediately change your oil.

NOTE: The ONLY possible way this could "hurt" your engine is if you dont change your oil after using seafoam or if your engine is beat the fck down and held together by carbon seals. Once the carbon is removed, it would then reveal a leak in your seal. But your **** would have to be pretty beat to have bad seal leaks, and that will let you know its time to get new seals. Not knowing of a problem doesn't mean its not there

I guarantee you will feel a NOTICABLE increase in horsepower. Thats a big notice too. This is safe to perform on all engines with any amount of miles. You can buy seafoam at AutoZone for 5.99 a can.

Post any comments about your experiences with seafoam.
No, it wont blow your engine up. If it did, then you probably had seals held together by carbon. And you officially own a piece of ****.

Keep smokin--
Nate

Is this the same as getting a complete flush from an oil change shop?

Your killing me, smalls.

NO. This is nothing at all like getting any kind of flush at the oil shop. Did see the videos? How many shops do you think take out their customers cars down the street redlining their ****.

Most shops dont even know what it is. Most people dont. Thats what this thead is for; to show seafoams potential. I wish i had a dyno before and after.

YEAH, lol nice write up man, thanks for the hints. One question though, i have bad valve seals on my piece of **** stock motor as of the moment in my hatch and well...im not sure if seafoam be a good idea or not see, what do you think mang?.

Very good info. I didn't say that you had to do a write up, but it is a lot more relevent. Good work!

You're kidding yourself if you don't think most shops know what Seafoam is. This isn't some new technology that you just stumbled across. I've been using it for almost 8 years now and my dad has been using it longer than that.

I'll also guarantee you that you're using the butt dyno to "prove" that you gained HP. If you did, it was minimal and you can't feel it. You're going on a placebo effect.

You need to change the oil after you do this. I didn't see you mention that anywhere.

i've never noticed a horsepower difference after using sea foam even on higher mileage engines and ive been using it for a couple of years.

It does help cut carbon build up in your engine.

You also forgot to mention putting seafoam into the crankcase via the oil cap, going for a "spirited" drive, and then chainging the oil.

Seafoam is safe for turbo-charged engines. It was tested by a brave pioneer of the FI forum.

I did not post this thread to here flamers. This restores horsepower and there is no question about that. It does not increase it past stock however. Why would all 5 cars i have done this on all noticed more power, especially in 3rd gear, when all 5 people did not have a damn clue what it was and were skeptical on using it in the first place?

I believe your dad has used it, but it doesnt mean that many people know what it is.

No, this cant hydrolock your engine. I have used and ENTIRE BOTTLE at once many times and it does not hydrolock. You just need to keep giving it throttle so it doesnt bog out. If it bogs out, just turn it back on. How hard is that.

If you have bad valve seals, then you should get that **** replaced asap. The worst it will do is make the seals blow by more oil that they are now if there is carbon filling some of the seal leaks. But you will also see an increase in power. If you plan on changing your seals soon, then go ahead and run seafoam.

my car has nearly 97k miles on it now. I am the third owner and my car is pretty much completely stock except for the intake i put on it. My car has been treated well and it runs great and i've never had a problem out of it, and for as long as i've had it i have treated it well also and have only red lined it only maybe a couple times a month. Would Seafoam be safe for me to use on my engine and would there be a way to know if i have "carbon seals" before i use the seafoam to make sure it doesn't hurt me?

If the people you did this for didn't have a damn clue what it was then they probably also just think they gained power from it.

I seafoamed my B16 and didn't feel ****. I just ended up pissing off a lot of park rangers as I was driving away lol

And if you had read some of the threads on Seafoam, some people said their car felt slower from seafoam and people have mentioned that taking away all that carbon buildup might (not def, I said might) have lowered their compression

Odd question... but i figured id ask....

If you transfer the seafoam into a spray bottle (like a windex bottle...cleaned out of course...or just a brand new one from walmart) and sprayed it in the intake manifold would that accomplish the same thing?

Yes, but seafoam also has a spray form as well, never used it though, i did do it the way you just said, works great through the turbo inlet.
