Default Getting crank pulley off

I'm trying to change my timing belt and I can't get the crank pully off. Does anybody have any tips on taking it off. I've tried putting it in gear, putting the spare tire on and setting it on the ground. Also, I tried sticking a big screw driver on the flywheel and still can't seem to get it off. Is there a tool you can rent to hold the flywheel or anything?

3/4" breaker bar and a piece of pipe.
Or just find somebody with an air compressor.
Most shops would be able to crack it loose for you and just tighten it enough to get you back home so you can take it back off with hand tools.

You can try something like this if you have the pulley w/ holes around the perimeter. Thats angle iron w/ a hole drilled near one edge, a snugged bolt/nut from the back of the pulley, and a small adequate sized 1/4 drive deep socket through the other hole. I think I had to put a pipe on the breaker bar, but with the jack/block of wood to get square torque it came loose with only a small grunt (WD-40 treatment recommended). Otherwise if its the big hex shaped opening on the pulley buy the special tool from some website (make sure you get the right one).

Be sure to use a torque wrench to put it back on after or suffer a possible ruined crank snout/engine. And don't lose the little key.

you dont have acess to an impact gun? rent what you need to use it, or go to a local shop, pay them to remove the crank pulley bolt, then put it back on looser than factory spec... then drive back home and take it back off....

If you don't have access to a powerful impact wrench, then you will need this tool.
