Default Fuse #24 keeps blowing PGM FI?

I have a 1993 Civic DX 1.5 and fuse #24 keeps blowing every once in a while.

Does anyone know what this fuse controls and if so does anyone have a wire diagram so I can trace the fuse to see where it's shorting at?

The fuse diagram says PGM-FI, alternator, cruise control, gauge assembly, SRS control.

Basically when the fuse blows the engine will keep turning over and wont fire, until I replace the fuse and then it works. I was wanting to know if anyone had a wiring diagram so I can track down the wires, to see where it is shorting/causing the fuse to blow.

PGM-FI is programmed fuel injection if I remember right. Fuse blown, fuel injectors aren't working which is why it will not fire. If the fuse blows while driving, car should shut off. When does the fuse usually blow? On start up? While driving? After shutting car off?

Fuse 24 does does not provide power to the fuel injectors.

A bad alternator or fuel pump is a common cause of blowing fuse 24, though answering the questions below should help.

Sorry about that to answer both of your questions.

It has happened 2 times since I bought the car and it does it while driving. The engine will shut off and the check engine light will appear.

Funny thing is the previous owner used a 30 AMP fuse and it calls for a 15A.

I put another 30AMP fuse in and it blew, I know I should have used a 15A.

The first time I replaced the fuse, the car ran great, so the fuse hasn't blown in a few months.

One of my fuel injectors was leaking but it stopped leaking, I'm sure it could use an o-ring.

I did replace the fuel pump but the wires looked good, I'll have to double check and see if anything is touching and then look at the alternator.

Thank you both for the quick response. Anything I should look at while I'm checking the fuel pump and alternator?

check all wiring with them, does the alternator charge fine? If it is over charging it could blow a fuse. Just pay close attention to wires make sure nothing has a slight cut on the insulation. I had a cbr600f4i with a wire with the tiniest cut in the insulation kept shorting out my gauges. Took me months to find it, I finally lucked out when I saw a spark while I had the bike accessory on to position LEDs for the motor. Best of luck to you on this. And yes do NOT put higher fuse than recommended, could cause a fire.

Intermittent problems are THE WORST to troubleshoot as you almost always learn nothing when there's no problem (fuse doesn't blow).

Has the fuse blown since replacing the fuel pump?

Given that the pump has been replaced, I'd start by inspecting the 4P alternator connector and its Blk/Yel wire.

In addition, it may help you to know all the components that fuse 24 protects:

Thank you both for the great info!

RonJ@HT thanks for that diagram, it will be very helpful I'll have to get my multi-meter and see what the alt is charging at.

I bought the car from a dude that claimed it had a bad fuel pump. What he thought was a bad fuel pump, might have turned out to be a bad Main Relay..I say might because of a few things. I bought a fuel pump from a junkyard that looked brand new and aftermarket.

I installed the fuel pump and the car started and I drove the car around then bought it from him.

As I was driving the car had no power, and had a very bad miss. Turns out one of the spark plug wires was bad(the plastic shaft was broken in half). I bought all new plugs, plug wires, and a brand new distributor, cap and rotor.

The car started to develop issues where it didn't want to start. I got a few Main Relays from the junk yard and that fixed the problems.

Then one day when I was driving it, the engine cut off and had the check engine light.(Thinking to myself, Main Relay went bad), it would keep turning over but won't fire, that when it turned out to be fuse #24. Replaced it with the same 30amp fuse that was in it.

Drove it like 3-4 months then bam, the fuse blew again.

I'll look over the fuel pump and check the alternator and see what voltage is putting out, then if that checks out good, I'll track that black and yellow wires your talking about. Not sure what else to look for.

I really appreciate everyone taking the time to help out! Thank you.
