Funny noise when steering but NOT cv boots. Help? =(
At slow speeds (such as driving around looking for a parking space), there's a very audible creaking noise when I turn the steering wheel both left and right. It's not a clicking noise; it's a creaking, groaning, moaning noise. I'm not sure whether it's coming from my driver's side axle or from my steering rack. I checked the CV boots for leakage, and they're perfectly fine. The car has to be in motion for it to make the noise, though. When I'm parked, it doesn't make any noise. While driving around the streets above 35 mph, there's no noise whatsoever when I turn; I have to be creeping along. The car drives fine otherwise. Any ideas?

There's enough p/s fluid. Unless it's leaking somewhere and not going where it's supposed to.

Actually, yeah, my front tires do rub the fenderwells. But from the driver's seat, the noise seems really pronounced like it's coming from under the car, not the fenderwell area. The car drives normally in all other instances. I can suddenly weave across 4 lanes really quickly on the freeway with the jerk of the steering wheel, and there will be no creaking/groaning/moaning noise. (I wouldn't do that, just saying it to illustrate my point.) But if I'm driving through a store parking lot and turn while crawling along at 15 mph, then it creaks.
