Default Function>Form build. My first complete resto

Thought I'd start a build thread here. Copied it from EJ1OC. I have most of the stuff dated. It's been a work in progress for 4 years now.

Bought this gem May 22, 2008

Here's my progress for the first day.
Goal was to strip the interior an get the engine out.

How she looked when I got it

And an hour later

Few more hours and some cleaning

End of the day, got car stripped, an engine ready to be dropped out next week. Then body work an paint

Future mods
GSR Swap
Wire tuck
New Paint and body work
Swap over all my parts from my coupe

May 23, 2008
i paid $200 for it. I'm getting brand new rear quarter panels, an painting the entire car, like windows, wiring, doors, hatch, everything out then paint.

and some progress from today, finished cleaning out the inside an took out the sound deadening on the driver side, cause i suspected rust an was right. I'm also getting a new floor peice for that side. Removed the heater core, removed half the fire proof blanket, removed the last three brackets in the car.

June 1, 2008
here are some pics from this week, forgot the SD card for my camera at home so only took a few pics. the car is an hour an a half away from me so...

June 26, 2008
updates:
started shaving engine bay, cleaned up my rear trailing arms, an put in new trail arm bushings, patched up some hole, an cut out rear fenders. pics....

donor hatch

shaving some holes

cleaning up rear suspension assembly (they both looked like the one in the middle of the pic)

rust killing primer

fresh paint

finished product with new trail arm bushing

and all thats left on the car is the two brake lines in the back, gas tank an filler thing, other than that its as stripped as you can possibly get

June 26, 2008
made an impulse buy today, and got these

and got these today

August 25, 2008
finally an update, im back at the hatch, once a week now. Anyway, on with the pics...

don't worry about the runs, its just paint killing primer

and my other two donor civic's

October 16, 2008

new rear quarters welded in

Engine bay being prepped for paint

2 Coats of sealer

and finally some paint

truck bedliner as my floor sealer

new suspension, complements of Springrates.com

even new oem honda bolts

doors and hood from my 94 EJ1

i'll always have a piece of my first EJ1 with me, the front lower control arms, and front sway bar are from my EJ1. As well as the GSR swap from it and the wiring, the power mirrors, and dash. The doors, hood, and seats are from my second EJ1. The rad cradle is from my other EH2, as well as some donor parts like the lower part of my windsheild that I had to cut the rust out of.

October 27, 2008
here are some pics from last week. Also got a few new parts; Black Recaro's, Innovative mounts with black bushings, Skunk2 intake manifold and hondata intake gasket

oh and i'm picking up a gsr rear sway bar to replace this hideous thing, which was never used

November 5, 2008
just a little update, starting the wire tuck tomorrow. Got my S2 intake all together and on the motor along with my Hondata Gasket, had to buy some longer studs for it though, so I decided to replace the exhuast side onces too right away...

and I had a little exhaust leak, the first stud was broken and had maybe one thread on it that was actually in the head.

Also picked up a GSR rear sway bar, and my Innovative Mounts (Black bushings instead of red) should be here next week

April 25, 2009
FINALLY got to work on my car, the guy that owns the shop that owns my car was impossible to get a hold of. Two hours of calling and finally going to his house I woke him up. Anyway, dropped in my motor finally. Towing the car home wednesday to assemble and then hopefully in two weeks, bring it back and finish painting/body work

PIX

New Mounts and Bolts, other mount is already on the car

Engine sat there for the last 6 months

Left mount didn't work (Engine mounts were for Civic, bought a single mount from Innovative)

it feels good to make some progress... just now my vc is hitting my hood. It latches, but doesn't lock in

July 1, 2009

new oem brake lines

fuel tank and ecu covers

July 8, 2009
next time i do ground up, im bagging and labelling all the screws, bolts, nuts, etc, so I don't have buckets of them to sort through, most frustrating part is trying to find the right bolt, i stripped as many as i could off my last two EJ1's so i'd have a few extra's.

on a progress note, i got a bunch of stuff sandblasted and powder coated ***** fresh

left torque brace, bumper gaurds for headlights, hood and hatch hinges, wiper arms, left engine mount bracket, inside ecu bracket, and battery tray... got it all done for a pizza

August 10, 2009
yay update, wire tuck is moving along slowly, had to de-pin my power mirror wiring from my old harness and incorporate it into my vx harness.
Finally got the right set of front brake pads, they're from an RSX Premium. Ya don't know but they fit.

left is a fuel pump cover from down south, the right is mine with a lot of wire wheeling

March 15, 2010
just stock piling parts in my spare room, waiting for my tax return to buy a harness from rywire, and picking up my sandblasted MR5's today
this is what I started with

paint stipper doing its thing

gave up on sanding off the clear coat and original finish, so i got them sand blasted (HUGE Mistake)

did a little sanding today

and here's my parts room. Sponge Bob and my monkey keep them safe

the rest of my parts are in the garage, these are mostly the parts that can't get dirty, and go on last

April 10, 2010
here some updates

this hood is actually black, this is from all the dust from sanding

random engine shot

my near perfect, mint calipers

rear brakes

April 22, 2010
small update, still working on the rear quarters, i am probably the pickiest person i know, i painted them so i can see where the imperfections are

and my rear hatch stripped down and ready for some work

April 26, 2010
got all the rest of my fuel stuff today

and i bought a new shelf for my parts room

Removed my head to get the broken exhaust manifold stud out, just some pics

still have the factory hone marks now i know it has low kms

re-assembled my head so i don't lose anything

June 14, 2010
i went with gloss black face on my mugens (thanks to joon), they look awesome, much better in person.

and some more freshly powdercoated parts and my front control arm bushings should be here tomorrow or wendesday.

cut down and fitted my replacement roof piece

gap

insert piece

August 1, 2010
finished my welding

August 7, 2010
got these today

May 9, 2011
did some body work today, and removed the rear suspension to get it ready for paint

couldn't get this brake line off, so I just taped it up

need to weld the molding holes, might want to buy a welding helmet, or borrow one, my face is still recovering from doing the other side

shaved emblem holes

antenna is gone

no more molding holes

100 attempts at getting the rear quarter perfect

gotta have an engine bay shot

dashboards, and my Mugen barrels waiting to get polished

parts room #1

parts room #2

rear disc brakes

Grey on grey door panels

Black on black door panels w/tweeters

Black on Red (looks pink) w/tweeters

Black on Grey

Parts room #3

I basically have atleast 2-3 of everything for my hatch, interior wise. As well as 2 Fuel rails, an AEM, and BDL, 2 B&M fpr's, Amber and clear corners, Amber and clear sidemarkers, Mugen and Spoon shift *****, Sparco, Nardi, Personal, and EG6 Steering wheel, Recaro, Sparco, and OEM Leather Seats. Black integra and OEM Leather rear seats, short and long armrests, Mugen MR5 and RC Carving Starks... it just seems like the parts keep piling up.

May 10, 2011
Hope to get my paint guns this week and next week buy paint, and maybe lay down some sealer.
washed and started wet sanding

May 19, 2011
first coat of primer/sealer

second coat

yea it has some runs, but its my first time painting a car. I'm sanding it in the morning before base

remember my rusted roof?

third coat

May 25, 2011
so here's my paint

second coat on the car

third? or clear, can't remember

now i just gotta wait for the clear to dry, and tomorrow after work, start wet sanding.

And once i get some saw horses, i can finish up the doors, fenders, hood, and hatch, and then finally re-assemble her

June 20, 2011
finished painting jams
[hr]Car is painted!!!

got top of my hood, rear bumper, gas lid, and door handles left to paint

June 29, 2011
some progress

and last shot of the day

July 12, 2011
Progress!!!!

first time out of the garage and on the ground in over 2 years

side shot

Best parts money can buy in my opinion

don't mind the intake, need a bigger coupler

took out my heater core, but this all had to go back in

end of day shot

July 14, 2011
hooked up my fuel lines

fuel pump cover

washed my carpet, gonna vaccuum it once everything is finished

parts car

my car

what my engine bay use to look like

what it actually looks like, (added PWJDM strut bar, not pictured)

new door moldings/trim

rain gutter moldings

tested a few things last night

had to replace tailgate wiring. High mount brake light doesnt light up, its getting no power wiper motor got caught in the wiring i have going through that area, so i gotta figure out how to keep the wiring down.

oh and integra rear seats fit like crap, who ever told me they fit properly in a EH2 was full of ****, gaps on the sides, and where the bottom and top meet has like a 3" gap

July 16, 2011
did a little work today, finished wiring, soldered my Rywire ecu jumper harness to my old ecu harness (5 wires), and i needed to solder up my city lights, and one headlight plug. Filled and bled my clutch, filled up my brakes mc, need to bleed them when i have time next.

pics

and as you can see, mounted my bumper, and fenders, aligned them and the doors as best as i could, not happy with the pass side fender though, there's a bigger gap at the bottom, and i can't pull the fender any closer, and my door is properly aligned, well it could be pushed up another millimeter at the back, but it still closes perfectly

July 18, 2011
Picking up the last piece i need for my fuel rail on wednesday, and then im gonna try to start it. If everything works properly, i'll be putting in my other dash, and getting the rest of the interior back together, and then save $400 to get my glass installed, and then another $80 for a wheel alignment.. woop woop
got most of my interior in

my new front sway bar hardware, i put the endlinks on before the pic, but here's the old and new mount and bushing

October 2, 2011
Picked up some cam gears that will be going on shortly. But here are some recent pics. It was nice outside, so I brought her out for a washing

my 4th set of wheels for the hatch

March 27, 2012
here are my Mugen's, just picked them up from the powder coaters today

April 4, 2012
Tires and glass!!

windshield

quarter glass, new window trim

dyno tuning coming next month, if everything goes as planned. Actually don't have a plan. Just hope to get it done in May

got my J-Speeds on today

damn do i love these wheels. My first set of brand new wheels

fresh coat of black on my extra power mirrors

front back on, and some what aligned (left side was about 3mm lower)

lowered it another 2" in the back

and my front upper control arms are hitting my strut towers I might raise the front half an inch

June 8, 2012

I had my 93 EJ1, used some parts off my 94 EJ1 that I had swapped onto my 93. Got the white hatch for free. I picked up the last parts car, 94 EH2, after realizing I should of labeled my bolts. So as I removed parts from it, I put them into my project car.

I painted it myself, I paint things when I get bored

this was over a 4 year span, plus used some of my parts from previous cars. If I had known at the end I was gonna spend this much, I would of saved for an NSX. But I bought my first car 9 years ago, swapped in a GSR motor, which I used on this car. Bought coilovers and other suspension parts for it, which I used on this car. So lets take $25,000, devide it by 9 years, thats $2777.78 I spend on it per year avg. I've seen guys dump $10k+ into a car in one summer, and sell it off a few month later for a few thousand. Thats dumb. I went into this project ***** first, knowing I wasn't getting a return on my investment. But I didn't build it to get into a magazine, or win awards at shows. I built it for me. I don't ever intend to sell this car, and for me, its my hobby. Some people like to party, I like to work on my car. I bet the partying hobby is more expensive when you break it down... or drugs, or even smoking.

Well, I spend $1800/yr on cigarettes, and ~$5000 a year on booze at bars (no clue what I spend on my personal cabinet), so per year, you've got me beat

Would you consider uh, getting paid to get bored and paint my valve cover?
