Default fule problem

Im having a problem were sometimes when its really hot outside or my car has be sitting for a while ( like a week) it wont get any fuel. I have a fuel pressure gauge and it shows there is no pressure. And when I turn the key I don’t hear the pump start priming. I know its not the pump because I have replaced the stock pump with ether a gsr or a h22 in tank pump. After a while of trying to start it gets pressure and starts up.

Also sometimes when I driving say just leaving a light or just starting to go it bogs down like its going to stall. Its almost feels like im starting in the wrong gear.

On my fuel pressure gauge it says the pressure (when there is some) is at like almost 50 when im sitting still in the drive way and the car is idling.

Im not sure if these all have something to do with one another but that’s whats going on. I remember reading something about a (black box) for lack of a better name under the glove box that controls your fuel pump and all that stuff if that is bad could it cause all this? Whats the name of it also?

Thanks for your help I know its kind of hard to tell for what I wrote but if anybody can through me a bone that would be cool.

it sounds like it IS your fuel pump...did you replace the fuel filter also when you swapped out the pump? Filters rarely ever get changed and yours is probably long past due...

because if the fuel filter is clogged no fuel can flow through... for no pressure at all, that filter probably has never been changed is clogged to the extreme..

or maybe your main relay is shot (you can take it out and check the solder connections and resolder them just to make sure they're in good condition)

He said his fuel pressure at idle is 50psi. Correct me if I'm wrong but that sounds ridiculously high. Too much fuel can cause the car to bog and stall. It should be obvious by your exhaust and your cat converter should be glowing hot and will burn out in a very short time.

Check your FPR with a vacuum pump.

i know when i run open header at the track i was blowing black smoke but i dont see it on the street. i was thinking the main relay also (is that the black box thing under the glove box) maybe ill just replace the filter and then the main relay and see what that gives me. i need to pass smog and this isnt helping.

thanks for the help guys if there is any more out there ill take it.

Change your filter, check your vaccums. and look at the condition of your main relay.. Then you should be fine.

I misread the post. I agree with suspended hatch. Check the fuel pressure regulator and check the line on the FPR for vacuum leaks.

It's most likely the FPR.

This is the exact same problem I had with my car. My fuel filter was extremely dirty and it caused there to be more pressure in the lines than the fuel pump could take, in turn causing the fuel pump to burn out. Before I had done any of this, I had been having a problem with my car not getting any fuel and not wanting to crank when it was hot outside. It turns out it was the main relay (about 20 bucks in a junkyard). It's a small gray box with a red harness located right above your hood pop lever.

Just throwing my 2 cents out there.
