Default Timing Cover Carnage!! Need Help Pics Inside!

here is the aftermath of the pully issue i posted earlier. The timing Belt cut its way through the timing cover and was pushing against the pully causing it to come loose. my question that i need help on is i was looking though the chiltons and they show 2 different timing belt configurations. here are some pictures. i need to know if there is a part missing or is something else failing like the tensioner or something.

here are the two different set ups chilton shows the one for the 92-95 doesnt show a cover for the belt but the older ones do.

(older)

(92-95)

help me please!!!!

On the pic from the manual (the first one) you see the two pieces that go on the crank and it talks about "install with concave surface facing in" and "install with concave surface facing out", do you have those two pieces? Installed properly? Those are the timing belt "retainers" so to speak. They keep the belt from sliding off or trying to slide off.

If you are doing a timing belt change I recommend replacing the tensioner anyway. And looking at the cover you'll need to replace that as well.

you dont need a new cover, but it would be wise to get another one. make sure you install those curved metal rings correctly. mine was shredded up from trying to take off the crank pulley, i just bought another one so itd be easier to set the timing.

new cover, new belt, new retainers.

also make sure your tensioner doesnt wobble any (bearing wore out) it can make the belt move forward and backwards.

ive also seen people helicoil the tensioner bolt before, if they helicoil it at an angle it will make the belt slide off (since the tensioner will sit at an angle)

make sure that hasnt been done
