Is an Engine Swap Reliable?
Well, I've searched, and I know that Honda/ACura engines are as reliable as they come.
But I've found if I Buy a Civic with a good body, with Blown engine, or high mileage engine, for like $2000, I can have a shop(Max Ha Racing) drop a b16a with Mugen chip and tune it for $2999.
And that is a better deal than me spending 5000, on a Teg with a B18, or a Lude with an H23 both non vtec, since vtecs' are more than what I have to spend, that has like 120xxx and up miles.
What I'd like to know is, is swapping a B16 in going to be reliable for me. Keep in mind I have no car as of now, and only $5000, and I need this car to be a daily driver. Or am I better off just buying something that is allready running, and try to find low miles.
Thanks in advance

I would definitely buy something that is already running for daily driving use. Spend anywhere from $3800 to $4900 and use what is left over to have the car inspected. If you can have the car inspected before you buy the car that is your best bet -- some people will do that. Try to avoid a car lot and look in Auto Trader (or autotrader.com) or the newspaper. You'll get a better deal that way.
Buying a broken car and having it swapped will be fine for the motor. But don't forget that a broken car was a car that has been abused and neglected and problems don't just occur with the motor.

I have a 93 hatch with a motor swap and it is proably one of the most reliable cars I have owned. I regulary drive fron seattle to Idaho 360 miles one way and it is also my daily driver. As long as the swap is done right and you preform regular maitnence it should be fine. Oh yea it also depends on how you treat it i.e. if you beat on it or not! lol

@ Slipjack
Yah, autotrader.com has been very usefull to me, I've been searching that place for a couple months now, and there are a few good cars on there with low mileage. Thanks

Wow, thats pretty good.
I believe the swap should be done correctly, I found the shop in D Sport mag, but I still need to check them out a little more. Thanks

A reliable engine going into another reliable car. As long as you have KNOWLEDGE and do the install correctly, yes it will be as reliable as stock. If your putting in a bone stock B16 into a stock civic, you will have no real problems. As long as you use OEM parts, and dont half *** **** with tape and crap you found at napa, you will be ok. Chances are there is a proper way to do it. Search H-t for how to do it. you can put most K, B, H, and D series into any civic, given you get hasport to give you the mounts and find out what axles to use.
