Default Engine Swap for my honda civic ex 1997

I need help. Im kind of new at this car stuff and i wanted to swap my auto tranny and engine for a 5 speed manual. Can anyone give me advice on what kind of engine to get, and price ranges including labor? I have a 1997 honda civic ex.

Thanks!

Great place to start here:

[FAQ] What swaps are available for my Civic?

It's at the top of the '92-'00 Civic technical section which this thread is posted in.
