Default EK 16x7 Ideal Tire Size

Hey winners I've looked around but came up with too many answers to make sense. So what is the ideal tire size for my EK for my 16x7 Rota?

is it:

a) 205/45/16

or

b) 215/45/16

or

c) I am totally off! (Then please help)

Thanks in advance,
J

I know that's the sidewall size, so the 40 would be a lower profile correct? So a 215/40 would be a little closer to 205/45
They probably don't make one of the above sizes

Not quite. The 40 and 45 are the size of the sidewall in percent of the width of the tire. So a 205/45/16 has a tread width of 205mm with a sidewall height of 45% of 205mm.

205/45/16 => 205mm * 45% = 92.25 mm.
205/40/16 => 205mm * 40% = 82mm.

so is a 205/40 a higher percentage smaller than stock than 205/45 is bigger than stock?

What size is stock? On my Del Sol its a 195/60/14, so the sidewall is 117mm. Add in the wheel and the total diameter comes out to about 590mm.

a 205/45/16 works out to about 591mm. 205/40/16 is about 570mm.

And of course I'm sure that all the sizes vary a little bit between manufacturers and tire models. Just use the numbers as a general guideline.

okay so the 40 series is a much lower profile. 2 cm is a big difference.

I think the 45 is only like 2-3% bigger than stock, thus I think making the 40 size more than 5% smaller than stock

No. 40 is a percentage in ratio of the tire width. So if they're 205/40's that means the sidewall is 40% of 205mm and the width is 205mm/20.5cm. That makes the tire wall 82mm/8.2cm.

The closest tire size in 16's to match your speedometer is 205/40/16. 45's would make your speed increased more. Although 45's are prefered due to the better comfort, rideability & strength.

Search for tire size calculators on google or honda-tech for more specific info.
