EG hatchback water leakage
Has anybody had an EG hatchback getting rain/water leaking into the hatch area, and also taillight? I noticed rain water in the groove to the right of the spare tire tub on the passenger (right) side, and also passenger side taillight (just the outside one, not the hatch light assembly) on my 92 VX. I dont notice water in my hatch area when/ while driving, but water gets into my taillight. Over on the Integra thread they mentioned about the taillight gasket wearing out and leaking on the Integras. I have owned 2 Integras and not had this issue, but decited to give this a try for my hatch. I replaced my taillights with a brand new set April 2011. My licence is suspended till Aug 2012, and with the hatch sitting, I noticed water from rain in my outside passenger taillight, exactly where it did with the stock ones. Uppon inspecting there was water in the groove on the passenger side next to the spare tire tub. I have had 3 other EG hatchbacks, and they all leaked water in the hatch area, but I didnt notice the problem until shortly before selling them. I suspect it would be a common problem, but I couldn't find anything relating to this on the 92-00 Civic/ del Sol Thread. Can anybody help me out, please???

close the hatch get inside, and have somebody hold a running hose to the hatch. You should see the leak pretty quick.

I have tried that idea. didn't see anything. I even went as far as stripping the interior out. Im wondering if the amout of water flow from the garden hose is too much for the car to leak??

Usually not. That's what we do in the shop, strip the interior and go for it.. Also some soapy water may help, like you are looking for a leak on a tire.

Re: EG hatchback water leakage
could be a rust hole where your bumper goes - i found mine there - under in the wheel well.
same with taillight gaskets, rubber trim around the hatch - re **** it.
see if your hatch is snug enough against the seal if not adjust it..
i seen some spray rubber **** in a can yesterday on tv. i duno if u can find it anywhere. Can always try and spray under your wheel wells with it. Looked decent and is waterproof.

Re: EG hatchback water leakage
Here is where my hatch was leaking from, all the water ended up running down the inner frame down by the tailgate lights and into the spare tire area. This started as just a little water around the tail light area and progressed into what you see in the photos.

BlackCivicEX: yeah Ive see that rubber spray on tv too, when I get my coil-overs Im gonna repair the little cancer I do have and rubber spray, or rhino-line my rear wheel wells. But i dont think thats my problem because my car has been sitting for 2 months.
instructor74: wow dude looks like you had leakage real bad!
What I figured out today after washing my car is water travels down the channel along the hatch window, goes between the car and the hatch, then ontop of my tail lights, thus leaking into my lenses. How water is getting in the groove beside the tub in the "trunk" I dont kno. As for I see, it looks like my problem is there's a gap between the lens and the housing along the top. Both sets I have (stock, and red/smoked from Racer Union) are seperating. Im gonna contact Racer Union tomorrow to see if they will defect the tail light. If not I guess Ill have to get some silicone and waterproof the assembly.
