just replaced door panel on 94 accord coupe but new panel looks ready to tear
most ppl say to reupholster but i was thinking about using insulating foam on the back of the door panel to prevent this
any thoughts? good idea bad idea? should i use the general purpose foam which drys solid and firm or the window/door foam which is soft and plyable?
i was thinking window/door foam or

Re: door panel reinforcement
well..... i did a search for door panel repair and most of the posts were for del sol the civic coupe and integra coupes so it seems to be a coupe issue and well... del sol is only available as a coupe so i figured this would be the best place to post

Re: door panel reinforcement
Well I have no clue about the Accord, but Civics have a plastic back, covered by a little bit of batting, then covered again with the cloth. Reinforcing it behind the door card with any kind of "filler" would be pointless, and would only add weight to your doors (and reduce the movement of the windows) without reinforcing anything. The correct way to do it, once again on a Civic, is to remove the cloth, re-bat it, and re-upholster it.

Re: door panel reinforcement
Civics Accords Integras CRXs Del Sols hell maybe even mr2s LOL all seem to end up with a custom elbow hole in the arm rest and "its not a matter of IF it will happen but WHEN as in how long until it rips"
reupholstering just covers the problem with cloth wishing it doesnt sink and rip the new and old cloth/vinyl
adding foam to the underside of the armrest should keep the sink hole from forming. i dont wanna add weight and i know the foam is not-automotive grade but if it prevents needing new panels in the future it sounds worth it
