Do I have this concept right???(Push button start)
I'm gonna install 2 toggle switches and a push button start switch instead of replacing my ignition switch in my 92 civic vx.
With that bein' said, this is how I've gathered to wire it up:
Toggle switch 1: BLK/YEL(IGN 1), WHT/BLK(ACC), and WHT(12v). This turns the car on.
Toggle switch 2: YEL(IGN 2), WHT(12v). This turns on the radio, etc..
Push button start switch w/ a relay: From the relay, 87-BLK/WHT(Starter), 85-BLK/YEL(IGN 1), 30-WHT(12v), 86-to the push button, Then a GROUND from the other terminal of the push button.
Do I have that right?
Also, with that setup after I turn on toggle switch 1 then press the push button. Should I turn toggle switch 1 back off? or leave it on while the car is running?
On those toggle switches what current voltage should I use?
Thanx

I did this to my accord, those wires colors sound familiar but Im not sure if they are the same between civics/accords.
and for your set-up: flip toggle switch 1(IGN 1), then hold down the starter push button, then flip toggle switch 2 on(accessories). Turning off switch 1 will turn the car off. Turning switch 2 off will turn the accessories off but the car will still run. Dont have the accessories switch on while holding the starter button down.
As for switches I got 2 SPST switches from radio shack for $3 each. they were 12V and I think 16 amps
and I didn't use a relay for the starter, I bought a push to make button from harbour freight for $4. It's rated for 12V and 10Amp. The push button connects the 12v(white) wire to the starter(blk/wht) wire, easier than a relay
no problems yet with my set up, I use it to warm my car up in the winter

Don't know if what you're proposing will work but are you still using a screwdriver to start your car? Do you have an aversion to a normal ignition switch?

I just recovered my stolen car and the ignition switch was jimmied with a screwdriver so now any key works. I'm thinking of doing the push start method since a key is pretty useless anyways and just finding other means of security. Does anyone have a good write up for the push start?

Yes I'm still using a screwdriver to start my car.. The way I look at it is: With the "hidden" toggle switches n push button, theres part of my anti-theft system..

I have a 2 switch setup with a push button on my ek. The only purpose the key serves anymore is to lock the steering wheel.
Always run fuses! Trust me, car fires are NOT fun.
Unfortunately, I do not have pictures of the two relays I have wired up, but if you are redoing your entire ignition harness to switches and a push button, I do recommend that you use two relays. Also be sure to use thick wire. Thinner wire runs the high risk of melting the casing off the copper wire and causing a fire. Also for added security look into the asianwolf smart KPL system.

I have mine wired so that nothing in the car works unless you enter the key code.

If you have any knowledge of how relays work, all you should need is a wiring diagram specific to your car and you should be good from there. I would do a write up for you but unless you are looking for a write up for an ek then I cannot help because I'm pretty sure that the wires in the eg and ek are different colors.
