DIY: JDM Auto Climate Control on USDM Civic
First of all, I am sorry about my English. Thanks for your tolerance.
Here is the one of the most pleased and advanced modification I ever done.
The original AC control panel is semi-cable driven. This means direction of air ventilation is controlled by a servo motor. In contrast, the hot and cold air mixture is controlled by a cable that attached the control ****.
In this article you found the useful information about how to change the climate control mechanism to full automatic version that only came’s with high end JDM civics.
You must have basic electrical skill and experience for trying this. You can found all of the required parts on eBay just below $100.
The original control panel;
The Full automatic JDM version;
Here is the air mixture motor. (Small part is cold air temperature sensor)
Note that it’s removed from a JDM car that right hand driven.
Air box of the right hand drive car is symmetrical designed in respect of to our cars that mean hot and cold air directions are reversed.
After disassembling the motor you see that very easy the reversing its working directions.
Just reverse the two diodes, (+) and (-) drive wires and motor in house. It's done.
I don’t want the make a hole in dash. So I placed sun beam sensor into upper ventilation grid.
This is the original blower resistor
And homemade power transistor module
I can’t found the original power transistor. First I am trying to Old school 2N3055.
Unfortunately it's can't drive the adequate power to the blower. So I replaced it to MJ series Darlington one.
Here is the air mixture motor that attached the air control box. (Small hole in right below the picture is place to cold air temp. sensor, how nice !)
In original design, interior temperature captured by the sensor via vacuum provided by some special parts attached to the air box.
I have those parts but I don’t want to disassemble and make a hole in air box. I solve this problem by attaching small fan into sensor.
I don’t have outside temperature sensor. According to the schematic I placed 2 K Ohm NTC to front bumper.
A little disassembling required for this project as you see.
This is my old project but I hope it may helps someone. Best regards,
Omer

Wow, very cool! I know that pretty much every Honda from about 1988+ has the option of auto climate control in Japan, nice upgrade on a usdm model

Nice description, I just started it a conversion, but a few things would improve. No need to flip the diodes and the motor, enough reversing the two cables in the connector. The resistance track two wires must also be be replaced, or send a reverse signal to the controller, and at one point stuck on.
The flat silver thing is water temperature sensor, not a cold air sensor.
Fortunately, I've got all the sensors, and even got the whole heating system, but also think about how to build the aspirator. I think it is not a good idea for the little fan in the internal temperature sensor, the air velocity is too high, so measuring colder than in reality.
