Default 92-95 eg hatch Sunroof

I have a 1992 si hatch with a sunroof the dumb thing somehow got misaligned one track reaches the front before the other and was causing the glass to sit crooked i removed the glass from the top. I cannot for the life of me figure out what i need to do to align them again.
I found this(Civic EG :: View topic - DIY sunroof rails teardown & rebuild.) in another forum but its a tad overwhelming. I just want to align them again and get it shut and unplug the switch for the sunroof. Also will a coupe or sedan sunroof assembly fit in a hatch

Here is a diagram i found as well

Hey there, one of three things has happened there. I have dealt with two personally.
1st possible: one and/or both of the plastic tabs on the ends of the cables have cracked near the cable and are allowing free play in the arm travel.
2nd possible: the cables are not aligned on the sunroof motor gear anymore, either from an improper reinstallation of the motor/cables or from the sunroof gear teeth being severely worn and allowing the spiral cable to slip past gear teeth.
3rd possible: the threaded studs that hold the aluminum track on one side have either rusted out or sheared off and the whole track on one side is allowing free play.

The FSM has the proper procedure to realign the sunroof, both for evenness AND for proper closing distance (BOTH are very important). The closing distance and the alignment are done manually to each side with the roof motor OUT. But follow the FSM to the letter, otherwise you can easily get it wrong and cause far more damage than you currently have seen.
My advice is this, firstly, gain access to the sunroof motor and remove it to inspect the gear, if all is good there, attempt to realign the cables per the FSM instructions.

If this does not correct the problem, it's time to pull the moonroof assembly, inspect for obvious damage, if no obvious damage is visible, you get the super fun job of disassembling the entire moonroof assembly, cleaning each part while checking for cracks, out of spec wear, degradation of the plastics and so forth (i guarantee your locking slots on the anchor rods will have serious wear).

Replace any parts that dont meet inspection (not too expensive for the plastics, just be VERY careful of the plastic tubes that join the aluminum rails and the cable tubes, they can and WILL snap at the joint and you can only get new ones with the entire cable assembly or from a donor car) and I suggest flat out replacing both anchor rods, all four front and rear stoppers, and the rubber bumpers on the front and rear rail holders.

After ALL that, you will need to lube the tracks/tubes/cable/anchor rods/slide stopper link/lifters/sliders and any moving contact surface with water resistant/proof grease (i forget the stock formulation) and reassemble the moonroof assembly taking great care not to force anything that resists just sliding together (another person helps greatly).

Also make sure to check the drain tray for rust while youre at it, i ended up having to weld in a patch or two on the front lip of mine, i went ahead and repainted it in caliper paint for good measure. Once everything is reassembled and you can confirm proper operation by manually operating the cables, its time to reinstall it into the car and perform that aforementioned adjustment and alignment of the cables before the motor goes back on. Dont forget to check your drain tubes for obstruction before you cover them back up, and DO take care in aligning the entire assembly as it goes back in, there IS play in the mounting points for the moonroof drain tray.

Other than all that, good luck. That job took me all of 4 days to finish, not counting waiting for parts.

I believe the coupe and hatch are the same size, the sedan is NOT.

I little clarity, the 92-95 EG Hatchbacks never had sunroofs. If they have them, they are after market or transplants from another vehicle type.

The FSM may not apply specifically to your sun roof.

all 92-95 si's came with moon roofs(I believe thats what honda calls them) from the factory standard

but I believe you are correct for the other model hatchbacks

Maybe I'm confusing CDM for USDM. I could have sworn conversations concerning the hatchbacks and none of them in the 92-95 having factory moon/sun roofs.

It must be concerning the Canadian Market.

Can't find the thread where the factory options were listed.

Ah, Canadian EH3 Hatchbacks (the Si trim) had sunroof/moonroofs, yes. These were only sold in 1992 and 1993 in Canada, however, so keep that in mind that there aren't really that many sold effectively.

Adding a sunroof/moonroof was never an "option". You either had it from the factory, or didn't.

You might be thinking of 96-00 Hatchbacks in CDM/USDM... these never had a sunroof/moonroof available.

Glad to have a true guru speak on this.

I recall previous threads concerning the 92-95 hatchbacks and for the life of me, my memory returns that the consensus was hatchbacks never had sun roofs period.

Glad to know there was some factory roofs even if not many.

I found it.... I see the part my memory wasn't recalling. The discussion was the CX/DX.... All I retained was hatchback...

Anyways, good to have more knowledge on the matter. Now if it will just stick.

The reason I was looking quite awhile back is that my CDM CX has one but I also know it's an aftermarket and it was done very well as it's definitely almost as old as the car and still no leaks. It's also not a powered one.

Rescued a CDM white '92 Si from the wreckers last month. Neighbour wanted it ... it barely escaped death. Well, it was very nearly there TBH, but it's in good hands now of someone who has the skills to repair/restore it.

The sad thing is now it has the rebuild status though..... Tis a pity.

Nope! Never deregistered or branded. Direct from city impound into the junkyard and back out.

Thanks for the diagram.
I went searching for some help with the sunroof, as mine does not close evenly on my '94 Civic Si, and found this thread.
