DIY How-To: Sidemarker Install on '00 Civic Si
I've had this lurking around on my computer just been too busy lately. Welp, I'm going to throw it up for you guys. If you wish to see the full picture, simply click on the picture.
First off, you will need:
- Dremel
- A piece of cardboard
- Two 8 1/2 x 11" paper
- Masking tape
- Pencil
- Two sidemarkers with wiring harness
- Patience (this task does not require a lot of time, but definitely some patience and making sure things are lined up and accurate)

Here is a picture of the fender we are first working on. You will want to clean it off and prepare for it to be modified.
Next is, place a 8 1/2 x 11" paper on the fender. The way I worked it is lining it up with the tip of the wheel well, along with the gap between the door & fender.
This helps line it up so both sides are exactly symmetrical:
Next, place the sidemarker where you want it. then trace a draft outline of where you want it.
Here is the outline drawed out:
Remove the piece of paper carefully:
Now, grab a piece of cardboard. You will use the cardboard as a practice template to make sure the sidemarker fits in perfectly to your draft drawing:
Next, cut the outline out of the cardboard template using a razor blade:
Here is a picture of the template cut out:
Place the sidemarker into the template to ensure it fits properly:
Next, put another piece of paper lined up on the car. And trace your outline of the sidemarker.
Note: For the record, you're only making one template for both sidemarkers. I've seen people do the whole thing all over again and possibly mess up. Just a mirror paper for the other side. This is the whole purpose is to keep the sidemarkers clean and symmetrical to eachother.
Your finished outline again -- but perfected:
Next, the big one:
Put some masking tape over the outline like pictured so the paper doesn't rip or go all over. And grab the dremel, and start cutting exactly how you drew it.
Note: I nor this HT take ANY responsibility if you mess up. You know how the rest goes..
Here is the piece of fender just about to be cut out:
And here is the completed hole!
Now test your fitment and boom, you're almost done!
Next is the wiring. Very simple. Depends on how you want it wired up. The Red is power, Green is accessory, and Black is ground.
If you want turn signal ONLY, you would put the two wires on Red & Black.
If you want running lights only, put on the Green & Black.
If you want both turn signal running lights, put it on the Red & Green.
Walla! And you're done.

You don't need the harness you can wire it yourself for cheaper
My install took me a whole night with a dremel and a drill just on one (replacement) fender.. Luckily I already had the fender sidemarker hole cut when I got my car.. I used the template from my old fender's sidemarker cut to find out where to put it and all that so I wasn't hard for me at all.
The thing I hate is how everyone I see with sidemarkers on their civic or integra has them wired the rice way, with the parking lights FTL
Mine are wired the JDM way to blink with the turn signals FTW

If anything I would suggest placing tape on the actual paint. When you go to cut your hole, the tape will prevent the Dremel from chipping the paint more then you wanted.

You might also want to add RTV sealant to the hole perimiter lip. Then press in the sidemarker and wipe away any excess. This will prevent water from getting behind the sidemarker and causing rust.

I'm worried about this too. When rolling fenders front or back the moment you have gap in the paint rust will start to creep in.
maybe rubber or some anti-rust paint?

Has anyone install the side markers from password JDM? I did a test template on some cardboard and the lenght of the hole seems way to small. One side has the metal clip and the other side has a small plastice tab the looks almost like a "C" shape which fits in between the fender. Just curious if anyone else has come across this........
I just ordered my radioshack nibbler so I am hoping I can find a piece of metal to make a template out of for practice.

I finally did the install. It was definitely a PITA because of all the measuring from being scared of messing up. The job took me 2.5 hours for one side because of all the measurements and it started getting dark. The other side took about 1 hour with a dremel and knibbler. Word to the wise, peel the tape towards the hole, I peeled straight across and it pulled about 1 cm of paint off. I had to build it up with multiple coats. Overall, I love them and it is well worth the time and experience you gain. I would definitely to it again if need be.
